AA Does this with targeted marketing

IN fact, I received my first Gold status because I was identified as a key customer of the STL facilities when AA decided to drastically reduce flights in 2003. To keep people loyal, half the fliers were made Gold (or put on a challenge). That fall, AA had agents checking boarding passes in the security line to route customers to the Elite checkin line. Many poeple pulled to the elite line didn't even know they were elite or why.

I graduated from a "participating business school" last year and was indeed offered Gold status on AA. They had stuffed the promo enveloped in with our official diplomas that were picked up the week after the ceremony (vs. the "fake" diploma handed out during the graduation ceremony). To be honest, I doubt if even 1/3 of my class took advantage of this.

But not a bad idea for AA!

Wish AA would add some Southern MBA schools to their target list. Seems like its only the LAX, ORD, BOS and JFK B-School crowd they targeted with this offer.

Two years staying PLT in the South as an MBA I think that deserves something.

Can't wait to finally be rid of US Air and Delta.

Drats, I guess an MBA in 1967 doesn't work either!

A couple of years ago, a friend of mine received a significant promotion, CMO, at a Fortune 500 firm. Part of his compensation package included EXP for him and his family. If I recall correctly, I was roasted to suggest that AA would ever consider providing such accommodation to a major corporate exec.

Now Gold to new grads.....I'm thinking that when my youngest graduates from kindergarten I should hold out for PLT.

IIRC the skepticism did NOT arise from the suggestion that the executive was accomodated, but rather from the claim that the executive's entire family was comped to EXP.

Anyone know if this offer is currently available? It's hard to tell from the posts.

That would be infinitely more valuable than anything they have gotten or will ever get from journalists.

I can get GOLD for new hires by asked AA. No one did this for me (I'm ONLY a woman) so I had to earn GOLD from my teachers on FT.
