Although service like that is the rare (and costly) exception in the US, it's standard elsewhere for F pax, and free at that. Consider the LH First Class Terminal (separate building) at FRA (where you are assigned a Personal Assistant on arrival, they have their own private security screening and passport control, and you are eventually driven across the tarmac from the FCT directly to your plane in a new Porsche or Mercedes), or TG at BKK (where you are escorted by a personal assistant and/or porter from the time you step out of your car until you board, not to mention a free one hour massage at their private spa). I understand that SQ provides similar service at SIN, but have never been there personally.

Yeah, give me Arpey for a week. I'll take him around and show him how it's done.

We've had a few threads where people have inquired about assistance for their elderly, dsiabled, non-English peaking, etc. friends or family members, and this would seem to be a nice idea / gift for those we care about but can be perplexed at coping with busy airports.

We recently used primepass CIP service, a similar service operated by TAV, the airport operator, €57 per person for arrivals service, at İstanbul Atatürk Airport (arriving on Iberia intraeurope Business). For that (nearly USD $78 at current exchange) we were met at the jetway, transported by cart, waited while a staffer secured our arrivals visas, proceeded to the NATO / VIP / Diplomatic immigration queue, had our luggage recovered and were escorted out of Customs and to a waiting car. Full airport time, with a stop to use the ATM (we could have requested assistance at Duty Free shopping as well), under fifteen minutes. Folks were still waiting for visa service whilst we were on the road to our hotel.

IMO, a good idea offered to those who want or need such a service.

I'm a bit confused by the level of pricing. On an hypothetical flight from Europe to the West coast on AA, it's $300 for departure (international), $125 for connecting at JFK/ORD/DFW, and $125 for arrival services for a subtotal of $550 each way and a total of $1,100?

At those prices, they better deliver PERFECT service throughout.

IMO, the execution will not be perfect, and it's way too expensive anyway. If you're on an F ticket, isn't this approach to service exactly what you're paying for?

Indeed, that's the fatal flaw: international = $300!

Swissair used to have such service at all stations for members of the Swiss Travel Club, an invitation-only affair. I used it with extreme pleasure at posts such as Beijing (1978), and a host of others. I ended out with 3mm miles on them partly because of that great service. They carried my carryons to the plane while I waited in the VIP lounge at Zurich and i boarded last, always with the company of a highly competent aide.

the Lufthansa FC service is similar in ways, but does not do so well outside Germany, where one really might need it, as in JDivers experience at IST.

I would not pay out of pocket for such service, as a rule, but there are exceptions. getting through checkin and immigration quickly at SVU, for example, would be worth a hefty price.

The one thing I would not do is pay hefty fees fo an a la carte service on the order of AA's, especially when it excludes all the airports where it might actually be useful.

I spoke with someone at Five Star number last night. You are correct; the fee is assessed for each point of assistance.

According to the AAgent, all the domestic stations listed on the Five Star website are live except for SFO. (She couldn't tell me an exact date, but she said "very soon." When I asked if it would be this quarter or next quarter, she said "oh, it's definitely this quarter...very soon.")

(On a sidenote: I didn't have the Five Star number handy, so I called the EXP desk. The EXP AAgent wasn't very familiar with the service and had to look it up on an internal document. When she tried to access the document, the system actually blocked her from viewing it. She tried a few more things and commented that it seemed like EXP agents were blocked from viewing/access any documents related to the Five Star Service. She transferred me over to the Five Star desk where the AAgent there was obviously much more knowledgeable - and also very helpful!)

I agree with your last statement especially. Two weeks ago my SO bought her sister this service for a connection in LAX. One rep brought her to the AAdmiral's Club and told her someone else would stop by when it was time to go. (The agent introducted her to the person who would come by later) My SO's sister was getting anxious as it became 30 minutes prior to take off and the Five Star Rep was chit chatting with the AC staff. Once she heard the "XX flight is now boarding" annoucement she found the gate and boarded herself.

Thought it worth noting that HSBC is offering complimentary Five Star Service to its Premier customers between 11/15 and 1/15 for flights into/out of JFK, LAX and MIA. If you're a Premier customer and make your reservation with the promo code PremierAA10 you should get the benefit. Unfortunately the notice came a bit to late for me as I already booked holiday tix into FLL!

As a HSBC Premier customer I used the service in the past. Just for clarification the "Premier AA10" code refers to booking the service with 5-star not the booking of the ticket with AA.

Below an excerpt of the e-mail

Is this still the case? How would one know to do this? Is there a sign?

On a recent trip to Beijing, I booked the hotel's car service, which turned out to include "Airport Butler" service (a/k/a "airport VIP service"). The airport butler service has a representative meet you at the exit from the jetbridge into the terminal, and escort you to (not through) customs and immigration. You do not skip any lines. The representative meets you again after you clear, and escorts you to the car (the agent and your driver coordinate). You are escorted from customs to the car via a normally off-limits part of the airport. The process also operates in reverse for departure; you are escorted to the boarding gate, but no lines are skipped (you still have to wait in boarding lines). However, in my particular case, I'd overslept horribly (for which I blame the feeble airport Hilton alarm, which is a mild "(meep) (meep)" instead of an alarm) and the airport butler whisked me from the hotel shuttle right to the diplomat lane at emigration, and through the handicapped lane at security, but only because I was so late. By doing so I was able to board at a reasonable time. He also called the gate while we were trotting through the airport. On my own I would not have been able to do any of this.

Likely that was the old pricing. The AA page says it is $125/person or $200/couple.

Now, $125/person or $200/couple.

To cut the immigration and security lanes?

Another way of looking at it is that you pay per airport, since at each airport you are either arriving, connecting, or departing.

American Airlines Five Star Service-IS IT REAL?

Hello

I read on one of the threads here about the 5 star service, which we were not aware of.

So thanks to all of you!

We called and paid for 3 events(Dec JFK, LAX & LAX on return), after paying we were told a "greeter" would contact us with their info for the first event with their cell etc., 1 to 2 days prior...

Does this sound correct? Seems like no margin for errors...
Just wondering if this is SOP ??

and

Do they really help you speed through security?, (we ask as were flying during Christmas)

Lastly:

We were also told that they will also watch our carry on's as were being scanned or patted down...is this true?

Thanks

Welcome to Flyertalk.

If you read about this in another thread, why would you not post in the existing thread on the topic rather than starting a new one? Not sure I follow the logic.

Cheers.
