Well, if I got a flight cancellation call when I was taking a wee, I'm sure I'd be pissed...hmm....
Cheers.

Let me get this straight. The complaint is OP signed up for Flight Notification. The OP received Notification once the flight was cancelled. (WOW, notification actually worked ^)
Sounds like the OP needs to be mad at him/herself because they left their own phone on in the middle of the night.
Now you know how Reserve FAs feel when they get a call during the wee hours of the morning to cover a trip because someone else called in sick

I hate those early wakeup calls too (for us West Coasters)
but it turns out to be a great benefit. I have received quite a few. I am always so impressed when they call and make an alternative booking. It too is why I fly AA.

I would think that someone who sets up Flight Notification would be glad to have the chance to know their flight is cancelled before getting to the airport and then finding out when it's too late.

I find that the best way to keep my phone from ringing at 3:35 am is to turn off the ringer. That way, it doesn't wake me up and if someone does call, I generally can listen to their message when I awake.
Since I'm not the Prez, I don't get phone calls that require waking me up in the middle of the night. So I prevent those middle of the night wake-up calls by muting the ringer. Very easy.
