The AA website now allows you to purchase Marriott award certificates. 18500 miles for what they call a Flex Night (Category 5's and below) and 30,000 for a premium award (all Categories). While maybe not the best use of miles these days, I'm trying to cash in what I've got to get the cost of this trip down.

30,000 for one night vs. the value of a free flight anywhere in North America, that better be some great hotel room.

Be aware that not many things post faster than actually flying. Most of these partner offers may take weeks or even months to post!

I would assume, however, that purchasing and transferring miles would post immediately---even if it does not show up online immediately. I've never done this, however, so if you plan to go this route you should look into how quickly the miles will post.

Good luck!

Newby needs help earning 700 miles fast.

Hi everyone,

I am 700 miles just short of the miles amount I need and I need to book soon. What's the most economical way of getting these? Buying thru airline is awfully expensive. I could not find any sign-up bonuses around here. Subscribing for card will take too long.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance and sorry if I put the question in the wrong forum.

Take a quick 1 day trip anywhere. Find the shortest cheapest flight and you are guaranteed 1000 miles for the shortest trip. Without knowing your location, it's impossible to look up fares you can tpurchase.

I'm going to have to assume that you need the miles on AA - there are plenty of quick bonuses around - but depends on how fast you need them - they'll take a while to post.

Stay at a hotel (varies)
Rent a car (varies)
Netflix membership (1,500 miles)
many more - if you read through posts here or search on "bonus mile offer" etc. you'll see more...

Quickest way by far - take a short, short trip (assuming you're in HOU based on your handle) - try a trip to DAL or DFW or AUS or something... you can (often) get 1000 miles (500 miles min per segment) for less than $0.02 per mile [under $200] - this is the FASTEST way to have miles post to your account...

Agreed, 1000 miles = $27.50 + $30.00 fee (and maybe some tax). This has got to be the cheapset ($0.0575 / mile), fastest (less than 72 hours to post) way to get 700 miles.

Best of luck!

I think you mean $0.20 ($200/1000 miles) . . . cheaper to buy for the small number of miles needed.

points.com gold.
2250 AA miles for 49.95 is a better deal.

FWIW.
You usually have 2 weeks to get an award ticket,

I'm hardly an expert on here. Many of you know a lot more than me. However, I do remember reading once that if you're within a certain amount of miles that AA will let you book the award and have a negative mileage balance. So, maybe he should just try and see what happens.

Please define "awfully expensive."

I think buying the miles is clearly the easiest, most simple and efficient choice.

I am rather puzzled that OP seems to think that $57.50 is "awfully expensive" to obtain an AAdvantage award.
