If you are going to be doing a lot of flying on AA, the 12/01/11 date means nothing.

Just about the only choice you have now is to BIS- it.

There are those of us that are a long way away from the next threshold but I am still pushing to get the miles because every mile I get by 12/1 accellerates my time-line to the next threshold exponentially vs BIS miles.

Some us also hope that from time to time AA will offer special deals to get LT miles in the future so I am still piling all I can in.

Transferring SPG points

Is there still time to transfer SPG points over to AA by Dec 1? I've been waiting to hit the 20K mark (for the 5K bonus) and should be there midweek to transfer.

Do it, and ASAP. In all likelihood you'll get the credit in time. However, there is good anecdotal evidence that AA countsthe date of transaction rather than posting. So don't get discouraged, just do it ASAP.

It's going to be REALLY close. From historical postings, it looks like the transfers happen every Wednesday (and sometimes extending into Thursday) and the cutoff to make the transfer is sometime on Monday before (or sometimes earlier). So any SPG->AA transfer initiated by Sunday 11/27 (or possibly sometime 11/28) SHOULD post on 11/30, but might not make it until 12/1 (which might or might not be too late).

Lots of IFs there. If you make that last cutoff. If they do the transfer weekly (some reports are that it's every other week, others are that it's weekly). If it posts on 11/30 instead of 12/1. There's no room for error.

I've never had a transfer take more than a week to post so you will likely be fine. I just wouldn't wait too much longer...beyond Wednesday.

I did one on Monday and it posted on either Tues/Wed with Monday's date.

I just ordered 100 miles from Bing. Will order a final 100 today.

I offered to buy my neighbor's office lunch for his staff today. I was going to suggest an Italian restaurant near us from the dining program, but left it up to them. Lucky for me, that's the restaurant they selected. So a final boost of miles from there.

We are flying one-way JFK-DCA for the weekend so a few miles + PLT bonus from that.

And finally, I opened the Citi Executive card so I'm good for some more miles for next year. The statement is supposed to close tomorrow so the bonus should be posting this week.

I'll end up at something around 650K which is still far from 1 million but I could get there through flying in my lifetime.

If AA is clever, it will offer us special deals that will yield LT miles for our accounts. In the meantime I'm shifting over my online shopping to get the best prices, deals and use of coupons (especially FaceBook click throughs) that I can get.

For those who are sweating out last minute postings, a Hilton Stay I had a few weeks ago posted with the date of my arrival at that hotel (not the check out date).

Bing AA miles have posted very quickly.

iTunes posts fairly quickly and with the date of purchase.

Drugstore.com posts with the date of shipping as does Overstock.com.

AA Rewards (dining) post all over the place with no logic at all.

Good luck to all and safe travels on this holiday!

I've vacillated between choosing to transfer a large amount of Starwood points to my AA account and choosing not to, and at the moment, I'm inclined not to go through with the transfer because I just do not think that I'll ever get to the next threshold without some additional help from AA in the form of a special LTM offer. And frankly, I just don't think I can assume that AA will ever do that.

It's unfortunate because I was well on my way to LT Platinum before the announcement of this change.

Just to gauge whether or not I am making a mistake, for any other airline program that has a LTM program, can anyone name a LTM promo that permitted the accumulation of a signficant number of of non-BIS miles? If so, what was it?

I'd be happy to be wrong, but I haven't seen anything in writing that suggests otherwise.

(P.S. In the OP's case, if I am correct, elite bonuses posted prior to 11/30 would count toward MM status, elite bonuses posted subsequent to 11/30 would not count toward MM status.)
Was there ever a firm answer to this question--whether the date that matters is that of the activity or that of the posting?

To my knowledge, AA has never come on this forum and provided a definitive answer. However, someone purporting to be an AA rep used the milepoint website to announce that actiivty date would take precedence over posting date. So, I am working under the assumption that as long as an activity has a date of 11/30/11 or prior, it will count toward MM status no matter when it posts.
