DL to operate LAX-MIA eff 9 June 2011
Per airliners.net:
http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo....main/5075423/
I don't think one 73H will be much of a threat up against AA's 7 frequencies on larger 757, 763, and 777 aircraft that are better timed for connecting and O&D traffic.
DL cut LAX-FLL but they had not yet loaded LAX-MIA. The LAX-MIA flight is now on DL's desktop timetable. It's the same flight number and flight time as LAX-FLL so it really is a straight switch. It starts June 9th.
LAX 2240 MIA 0646 Daily 73H
MIA 0745 LAX 0959 Daily 73H
LAX 2240 MIA 0646 Daily 73H
MIA 0745 LAX 0959 Daily 73H

"Downgauging" is a factor of aircraft utilization. With the 757 refurb program in full swing and a concentration of 757 flying internationally, get used to seeing 757s a lot less domestically. The 738 is the domestic workhorse, that's why it is getting WiFi.
A switch between a 757 and 738 is barely indicative of a route's performance, and LAX-EWR does do well.

I'm guessing the WiFi is a big factor in switching to a 738. It will be AA's only 738 at EWR, so it will make it more difficult if anything to cycle aircraft through the system (MIA is all 757, DFW is all S80 and ORD is S80/CR7). Even if they wanted to downgauge because of performance, I'd think not adding an extra aircraft type would justify keeping the 757 to maintain more commonality.

While its a downgauging in terms of seat count, seems like an improvement in terms of seat quality at least. I much prefer the SEA-JFK 268/269 flights this winter on a 738 over the 757s that I've flown on that route before. It's changing back to 757s soon and I'm not looking forward to it.

+1. I find myself on this route a lot, and I much prefer F in the revamped/new 738s to the Eisenhower interior on the old 752s. That said, I am looking forward to seeing some CIP'd 752s on that route after the slAAveships make their return--the one thing those 752s have going for them is their larger F cabins, which helps with upgrade chances (10% premium seating on newer 738s vs 12.6% on CIP'd 752s).

I think a new LAX-ATL flight just got a whole lot more serious in the last 48 hours or so.
