Not requalifying for Alata Plus - Ulisse or Alata for 2017?
I received Freccia Alata Plus through a status match 2 years ago and it expires this March and I only earned about 40,000 miles in 2016. Does Millemiglia provide soft landings to the next lower level - Freccia Alata - when failing to requalify or just give the status earned on qualification miles, being Ulisse?

Ulisse does at least offer SkyPriority, as well as lounge access in AUH, which is better than nowt.

Got following email today:
"We have got a Freccia Alata Card waiting for you. The card is valid until 31 March 2018 and will allow you to enjoy the many privileges reserved to Freccia Alata members!
To receive the card, all you need to do is purchase and take from 2 to 4 medium or long-haul international flights, with Alitalia, by 30 April 2017, choosing from:
[pictures with 2 business flights or 4 economy]
For example, take one return flight to Italy, in Business Class, and you’re in the Club!
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to enjoy exclusive benefits, such as access to Alitalia, Etihad Airways and SkyTeam lounges, upgrades to Business Class and other special priority services!"
I checked promo website but it does not specify what's the definitiom of midhaul flight or distance.

Any idea what are the criteria?

1 Keeping Alata Plus for another year or
2 Getting Alata
If 2, then this would be a clear sign, that there is NO soft landing I guess.

I got same email and was also wondering what their medium haul definition is.
According to their mileage earning charts, any flight that is not domestic should be either medium haul or long haul:

Alitalia does not provide soft landings for regular members, so I always doubted they would provide it for matched members. Nevertheless this looks like a semi-soft landing...

My email was for 2 long haul flights by April 30. Given that I have other travel plans over the next few weeks, the overpriced flights on AZ from North America and recent major devaluations on the award redemptions I will pass on this and just burn the miles I have.

Addition T&C are here:
REGULATIONS

2. In order to reach the Club Freccia Alata, valid until 31 March 2018, the member must purchase and fly between March 14 and April 30, 2017, 4 flights (legs) operated by Alitalia on medium-haul or long-haul routes in any Class of service or 2 flights (legs) on medium-haul or long-haul routes in Business Class.
3. Flights with Alitalia codes from AZ2400 to AZ3999, from AZ4101 e AZ4999, from AZ5000 to AZ5999 and from AZ7000 to AZ7999 are not valid for the promotion.
4. Standard Award tickets are not valid for the promotion.
5. Flights taken before April 30, 2017 and recorded in the Alitalia systems before May 20, 2017 are considered valid. Participating members are responsible for checking that miles have been credited to their account and may claim any missing miles using the Request Your Miles service in the "Missing Miles" section of the website alitalia.com.
6. Membership renewal will be recognized in the Alitalia systems at the end of the promotion and, in any case, by May 31, 2017.
7. The Club Freccia Alata card, confirmed by taking part in this promotion, will be sent to the postal address in the Alitalia systems within three weeks of membership being recognized in these systems.
My interpretations is following:
- The status that is at stake is the Freccia Alata (Gold card) as shown the email pictured.
- Renewal for 1 year
- Only international flights count (based on Alitalia earning table where they have made 3 categories of flight: Domestic, Medium international and long haul.

Do I have to buy a ticket on Alitalia's website or any TA would count too?
I am looking to fly to Naples for a weekend, but can't get it price on Alitalia's website with an overnight connection in Rome... no problems on Amex Travel though.

The above rundown of Ts&Cs doesn't seem to be making mention of any restriction with regards to sale channels. Indeed, the only pertinent criteria seems to be the posting as such on AZ systems (by MAY20). That aside, surely the AZ website would return non-overnight-stop travel solutions e.g. amongst others the 16:55 service to FCO from LHR and then onwards to NAP on the last evening flight?
