Instant Travel Bonus

I just checked my reservation on the Alaska Airlines web site and it says:

Thank you for your Instant Travel purchase. Mileage Plan members, traveling on this reservation, have earned 1,000 free bonus miles for this purchase.

I wasn't aware that there was such a bonus? What exactly is an Instant Travel purchase.

Sounds like the web booking bonus, if it's not your first time booking online.

Hmm.. it is my first time booking online, so I think I should be getting the 5000 bonus not the 1000 one.

The 1,000 mile bonus is awarded for every purchase on alaskaair.com. If this was your first online purchase, you should be getting a 5K bonus for your first online booking; this will post within 2-3 weeks of the completion of your flight (usually sooner).
Note that this is contingent upon your signing up for / having a Mileage Plan account before your booking!

The booking bonus appears before the flight, as that's just what it is; a booking bonus. Your reward for saving AS $$ by not using a res agent for your transaction. Note that most other airlines do not award their booking bonus miles (such as AA) until after the flight has been completed.

Don't forget that web checkin (available within 24 hours of departure) also earns you 500 miles per use. Good luck racking up those AS miles!
