Route: SFO-BOS
Flight Number: 356
Status 75K
Fare Class: Q
Companion: none
Waitlist: #2 until about T-48 hours, then raised to #1 where I died
Up until about 6 hours before departure there was one open first class seat, but then according to the standby list, a deadheading employee snagged it before the system upgraded me :\
Anyone know the policy about deadheads getting upgraded before passengers?

He/She rightfully went in front of you, and with only 1 seat, the 2nd one remained in Y.

Route (Please bold if failure): PHX-SFO
Flight Number: 735
Status: 75K
Fare Class: S
Companion: None
Time the upgrade cleared: Sometime overnight, within 12 hours of departure.
I was shocked the flight was not canceled, as it was scheduled to operate with a Max9. AS swapped in a 739. They must have rebooked a bunch of pax from prior canceled flights onto this one, because every seat was full, and it looked like a number of standbys did not clear.
At T-24, F cabin was booked full, and I was #1 on the waitlist. Sometime the night before the noon departure, a number of pax must have cancelled, because 3 F seats opened and I was cleared.
Will add that my window seat was poached by someone who upgraded after me. He pretended to be asleep and not to understand that he had taken my seat. I'm pretty used to this kind of nonsense on AA and UA, but AS pax are usually more civilized.

Status 100K
Fare Class: G

Time the upgrade cleared or position on waitlist if didn't clear: Cleared T-23.
Aircraft switch from 800 to 900 at T-14. Had already been upgraded to the last seat, Seat 1C, which is not my favorite FC seat. Tried to switch but all the additional seats were taken.
On a side note, I have been noticing upgrades are happening closer to 48 hours before departure. I have a couple flights this weekend, with 8 opens FC seats, which originally are on/were on 737-9, I am #1 on the waitlist for whatever aircraft is assigned . It seems upgrades are not happening until Alaska commits an aircraft/crew to fly the flight.

Last year out of more than 70 flights, I would say I was upgraded 80-90% of the time. So far, this year, out of about 25-30 flights I have only been upgraded a couple of times. I know that cancellations and rebooking are putting flights at capacity, but I have also noticed that individuals on the Awaiting Seats waitlist have been getting First Class and Premium seats before individuals on Upgrade Requests waitlist. I don't know if it's a system issue or if this is typical with packed flights. I have noticed that a lot of dead headers have been getting First/Premium before the Upgrade Requests waitlist as well. Is this just something in employee contracts that dead headers get priority over everyone else?

Dead heading crew is a different issue driven by union contracts between staff (pilots) and AS.

Flights are crazy right now. And lots of elites. I'm seeing upgrade lists in 40s where I usually see them in the 20s. I'm a 100K and I've missed one upgrade and had two battlefield upgrades. Even getting a Premium or exit row seat close in is an adventure.
