Well well, Alaska has gone from serving some of the worst meals in domestic F during the dog days of post VX merger to serving well, some of the best. The oatmeal with coconut milk plus eggs that were moist and fresh with very high quality bacon was much better than even the transcon morning meals in C that AA serves.

Am just hoping it tastes better than it looks. This looks like it was already digested and then regurgitated into a bowl for service. Maybe they're piloting a new, more energy efficient way of heating the meals?

Agreed. While this meal might taste appealing, the appearance is dismal. They could have served a small dish of fresh fruit to spruce up the tray. Reminds me of hospital food :-((

Grapefruit + coconut oatmeal is really really good.
TBH I've been pretty impressed with the new Alaska catering. Feels a lot more like Virgin America's now that they've worked out the kinks and the hiccups (more creativity! less hummus!). While the cod is due for a changeup, it's a better meal than I've ever had on any legacy carrier by far (hell better than some of my Etihad J meals) and could pass for a meal on B6 Mint. The morning protein platters in economy are bang on, really good quality and reasonably priced.
Those demanding simple slop can go to American or Delta. I'm glad Alaska's finally kicked the industrial airline food to the curb.

Upcoming LAX-EWR flight and first time in awhile I've actually been able to use pre-order. I'm curious to hear people's thoughts between the Braised Top Blade w/ Fennel (w/ mashed potatoes and mushroom demi-glace) vs the Vegetarian Bibimbap.
Believe I've had the steak before and it's fine. Is the bibimbap much better? Frankly am worried about still being hungry with just the veggies. Also given the flight departs at 10am, was a bit surprised this was a lunch vs a breakfast.
Thanks for any input!

SFO-BOS AS348 22:00
Snack, no menu.
Water only PDB. Drink orders taken before takeoff. Slept almost the entire flight, but at least a Woodford on the rocks was waiting for me when I woke an hour in.

BOS-SFO AS381 08:05
Breakfast, no menu.
Water PDB. Drink orders taken during deicing. Pre-ordered the smoked fontina omelette (FA had no record of this). Maybe not @beckoa's cup of tea, but he doesn't like funguys . This was a great breakfast (better than the Montamore omelette). Not sure how, but that bacon was perfectly cooked and delicious. The potatoes had been roasted with onion and red pepper - tasty. The apple & pomegranate seeds with cinnamon and yogurt sauce was also delicious. Also started with a smoothie shot, but served separately. The missing apple & cinnamon roll show up at the end when the FA realized the butter wasn't cheese!?

Love how Alaska proudly states that every flight includes a vegetarian option... apparently that doesn’t count with breakfast... or Alaska thinks either pulled pork or bacon is vegetarian...

Looking at a trip in two weeks to HNL from PDX and the options are Four Cheese Tortellini and Herb Roasted Chicken Breast.
