That's a rational way to define disruption for domestic air travel.

I think others tried to argue it was more about product/service, which is more difficult to argue.

Disruption is much more visible when the product is better or is something radical. Mint disrupted transcons by spreading a great product beyond JFK-SFO/LAX and pricing it at a point that leisure travelers and small companies could afford. This totally changed the pricing and service offerings on a number of transcons and has continued to reverberate to this day.

JetBlue also offering free TV and movie screens and low one way prices with a better product also caused a major disruption. DL and others started whole new brands (Song) to try and compete and even today, many markets within the US are still priced one way. Before jetblue you had to stay over a Saturday night, travel between 1202AM and 152AM on a Tuesday and return at some other random time to get the best rate. The fare rules were insanely complicated.

It is difficult to come up with anything that AS has done product wise that had any real impact on the industry. Most carriers did not even pay any attention to AS. They are only paying attention now as they entered California where everybody is.

Roughly matching AA's legroom is not innovating. It's copying.

AA has 40-42" pitch on their 737s. AS has 41".

the *new* seats will be better than AAs once installed. I just wish AS would get the little beverage trays between the seats like AA has (the ones that fold down from the armrest between the seats in FRONT of you).

AA is also reducing F legroom to 37” when they reconfigure to add more Y seats.

I do my resesrch before posting. 😉 I found it on Seat Guru. This A320 is used on the LAS-PHX route and I have flown it. First was really cramped. If you are at the window, no way of getting out without the isle vacating their seat. I was in MCE and had oddles of room. $60 flight and complimentary upgrade to MCE as MVPG at the time. I will miss that come the new year.

If the info on Seat Guru is incorrect, unfortunately that is out of my control. Click on the info tab to see the seating specifications.

MCE is only bulkhead and exit rows on that aircraft, so it's not like AA added regular rows in MCE with that pitch.

Ok, that makes more sense. Was wondering why there was more room in Y+

And yes, similar to MCS on VX. (only 12 seats however)
