I think that I only got this email because of my Alaska Airlines status.

Even the UG I got from AA (one way) I was able to clear upon booking the reservation.
Yeah, these are not really like the SWU on AA or even GGUs on AS....from what I'm reading, if there are additional F seats on HA at T-24, you can use their upgrade certificates to upgrade to F for free. I'm guessing a lot of these that are getting emailed out will go unused but if you have a lot of HA flights, they might be helpful on routes with lightly booked F cabins. I find it interesting that the same number of upgrade certificates are required for a regular F seat on an A321 that are required for a flat bed seat on a 787....lol.

That will fix itself when sub-fleet expands and the 787's are used for their intended purpose on flights over 3,500 miles where 2 certificates are required.
The transition begins when the 787's leave the PHX route and start operating HNL-JFK.
Look for them to also appear on SEA-NRT and SEA-ICN in 2026(?) when AS realizes it cannot compete with the existing business class product on those routes using HA A332's.

or perhaps to selected group like 100K and not to all of those who matched?

Very good point and one I hadn't thought of although it does unofficially create two levels of HA Platinum status if that's the case. I think the fair thing to do would be to give MVPGs and 75Ks two certificates and maybe four for 100Ks...has anyone below 100K received the upgrade codes yet?

Curious for those who know on the Extra Comfort upgrades - I know it's "at check-in"/24 hours before. But does that apply for only the first leg or both? I might do LGB-HND via HNL. The fare is cheap and coach to Asia is brutal but splitting the time with an HNL layover it won't be so bad (HND-HNL is blocked 15 minutes less than MIA-SEA, and I do that in coach with no complaints).

I'm assuming I can select an Extra Comfort seat, if available, for free at check-in for LGB-HNL, but then I will need to check again 24 hours in advance of the HNL-HND departure to select for that leg (if available)?

Thanks in advance!

some updates

still never received my upgrade codes or any email for that matter
after calling hawaiian miles they have "requested them for me" we will see where that goes
after speaking to supervisor he has "supposedly" put me on the first class upgrade list from hnl to lax
if this is true then i really appreciate it, bit it seems i have no way to verify this on my end and he could have just been talking

its worth noting that reservation which i have next week, is ito ogg hnl lax gua routing of course lax gua is AS (and paid upgrade to first on this one), the rest are hawaiian and the hnl lax is on the 787 that i would love to be in business for as well, but don't want to pay $4k or 50K miles, so hoping for the free upgrade

tomorrow i fly lih ogg then ogg koa
after not being about to check in for hours, after some help from an alaska airlines agent, finally able to check in on the hawaiian app and voila, i was upgraded to first on both my 717 flights
they will be my first ever flight with hawaiian and my first ever flights on the 717 which is exciting
of course i made sure to get a good window first seat to enjoy the island hopping view
also supposedly as a platnum i get to enter the lounge even in coach on island hopper flights, unrelated to me being upgrade to first, just sounds like they let there platinum's in which is amazing, but i will confirm tomorrow!!

Great, thank you. Certainly does give connecting passengers quite an advantage.

If HA is selling their Extra Comfort seats as well as AS is selling PC, I doubt there will be much left by the time T-24 rolls around.

I just noticed that starting in May 2025, Alaska is switching from 5 flights a day SEA-HNL to just 2 flights a day. It looks like 3 of the flights are switching to Hawaiian airlines metal.

I recently moved from Honolulu to Seattle and my partner is still in Honolulu. SEA-HNL is basically the only route that matters to me and it appears that they are nerfing it. It's probably going to be next to impossible to get upgraded on SEA-HNL after they go from 5 down to 2. I'm really sad to see that Alaska is switching routes to Hawaiian metal to reduce upgrade capacity to Hawaii.

Not to be dramatic, but this change very well might kill Alaska mileage plan for me. 😭😭

LOL, enjoy trying to get upgraded for free on DL SEA-HNL as a DL elite when DL sells almost 90 of their F seats in advance, but sure, you should probably try them out and see what the experience is like as a DL elite. Status match and let us know how it goes I guess? Who knows, it might work out better for you?

(75K in SEA is basically table stakes on getting some upgrades. Whole lot of 100Ks in front of you. Much harder than in Bay Area.)

Oh yeah, and enjoy paying 300k-400k SkyPesos to go to Europe one way in Delta One...

What HA metal? A330s and 787s have much greater F and Y+ capacity than AS 737s; given the choice - and all things being equal from an upgrade perspective - I would choose a widebody in a heartbeat.

After mid March an MVP in SEA will have a 100% chance of an upgrade on AS direct flight to HNL compared to a 100K trying to fly direct HNL from SFO or SJC.

how exactly are things equal from the upgrade perspective?
of course, I would take a widebody, no matter what the the configuration of business / first is
They are just more spacious, comfortable planes
and of course, being on a 787 thats brand new with amazing new business makes it even better,
but we can as Alaska elite on Alaska metal get upgraded space available no use of certificates required

on Hawaiian, you will need to be a platinum and have platinum upgrade certificates to use to even request the upgrade
and my understanding is everything over 3500 miles you need 2 upgrade certificates not one
