PP is kind of like the saying, "All real estate is local." Meaning, what's happening and what works in one area might not in another. People that frequent airports with good restaurant/lounge options can get a huge amount of value while others can have no value. There are some pretty glaring gaps - LAX for example. I don't really ever travel internationally but it sounds like it may be pretty useful.

Quick PP coverage review in the US, from memory:
  • JFK: Terminal 1 only. Others: nothing
  • ORD: Effectively nothing (only Swissport T5, no access after 300pm)
  • LGA: Nothing
  • LAX: Nothing, just a spa and a gaming arcade, no access for CC affinity members)
  • EWR: Nothing
  • SFO: Nothing
  • CLT: Nothing
  • DEN: No lounge, restaurant discount offer only, "at restaurant's sole discretion," no joy for CC affinity members
  • ATL: Ditto
I mean, those are most of the highest-traffic airports in the US. I've used PP without trouble at SEA, PIT, and BOS (and in Canada at YVR and YQB) but those are outlier stations for me. If it works for me twice per calendar year domestically, I count that as coming out ahead. Europe and Asia coverage is miles better.

I'm happy to have PP as a card perk that works very occasionally, but not in a hundred years would I pony up for PP as a stand-alone proposition.

JFK has three lounges listed in T4. And there's Bobby Van's Steakhouse in T8, where we've had a couple of great meals this year (we only ordered appetizers, but it ended up being free and we left full).

LGA would be nice. I noticed yesterday that you can get a free massage or other service at Be Relax Spa in Terminal B. Also a Minute Suites Express where you can get a free hour in the same terminal.

Chase is supposedly opening a CSR lounge at LGA.

I know you said you did this from memory - but there are lots of lounges missing from your list.

JFK has several lounges, as previously noted. CLT and ATL have "The Club" locations, which aren't out of this world, but aren't terrible. SFO has Air France, China Airlines.

That's a pretty dismal list... and it makes me realize I'm in kind of a travel rut (mainly, between my two residences of PDX and OGG). OGG has a Hawaiian/PP lounge but it's beyond a joke - a coffee/pop station, a couple TVs and some really uncomfortable furniture... I've been to nicer DMVs. PDX on the other hand is very nice with a restaurant option that has great grab/go, full bar and sit down meals. I easily get a few hundred dollars a year value from that at least. As for the general idea of the thread, I'm starting to understand.

And if we're including restaurants, SFO has four, across three terminals. I've eaten at one of them (paid for by PP) and it wasn't bad.

I agree with you there.

Looks like the only place in MIA we can use our Amex PP is the Turkish Airlines lounge - anyone been and should we bother?

The Turkish lounge was fine - nothing fancy. Had a variety of hummus, olives, quinoa, macaroni salad, 2 kinds of sandwiches. Only hot item was lentil soup (we were there between 4-4:30). Alcohol seemed to be self serve (no bar, just bottles on the counter next to the food). We just had sodas from the fridge.

It's a standard basic priority pass lounge, but usually has a couple of hot food options, as well as a variety of alcoholic beverages.

Thanks - since it's in the same terminal (E) as our flight I guess it's worth a look.

We used it last year and used *G status rather than PP. My wife and I liked it. It had many satisfactory food options according to my memory. It was full but not overcrowded when we were there on a Sunday late-morning lunchtime.
Despite not using PP in this instance we have gotten good value out of our AMEX Hilton Aspire PP benefit at SEA, HNL (Plumeria InterIsland), JAX, and LAS. Would have used it at SJC and LHR (outside of security) but our timing did not allow.

I use it because I got it free with my card.

If your Priority Pass membership is sponsored by American Express or Capital One the restaurant benefit is not included. If your membership is sponsored by any other card issuer it should be accepted at restaurants.

On further reflection and usage, I gotta modify my original answer. PP for lounge access is essentially useless in USA. Chase PP is somewhat useful for restaurants at a few airports. Based on recent experience, I don't miss the Escape lounges exiting PP.

We go through SEA a lot and it's a hundred miles to get to the Club at SEA, the only place we can use our Hilton Aspire PP. LAS is only if we happen to be flying Southwest, too long to get to from the Alaska terminal. So it's certainly not as convenient as when they included restaurants.

Its a short way from the United gates so we decided to try it out rather than visit the UC again. The two are quite comparable.
It does appear to be hidden away in an appendix at the end of the concourse so it's inconvenient to most of the other SEA gates.
