Elite upgrades
When you use a elite upgrade to upgrade one person but the PNR contains two persons
1: do you need to upgrade both persons or separate the PNR ?
2: if they have a sky couch does that make any difference ?

2. I don't think you can upgrade if you are already in Skycouch but am not 100% sure. I don't usually book Skycouch.

1. No you don't need to upgrade both persons. In fact in many cases you can't actually upgrade the other person if they are not your giftee. When your upgrade clears the PNR will split.

Have read about this before but still confused.
lodged RU for 2 passengers in May 2025 for Feb 2026.
4 pax on PNR.
should I have split the PNR when making the request? I have not done so - should I call and ask them to do the split?

I have been advised by AirNZ to split off pax above 2 if I was hoping to clear ahead of time (per Elite benefits), or take my chances at T-7. If course, splitting the booking means those pax split off will lose your Elite ‘shadow’ if they don’t have their own status.
