you need a full fare ticket to get un upgrade.
at checkin it happened to me that they proposed a mileage upgrade from tempo fare. try it. good luck.

As noted in the FAQ, only Y fares can be upgraded.
K fares when bought on the N. American market (and perhaps other non-European markets) can also be upgraded with miles.
