Will it be enough?
It looks like I will end the year with 33,035 status miles, and 33 segments. I am prestige this year, having earned 31,629 with 40 segments last year.
Speculating ...
Will they give me Elite status? If not, do you think they will hold the line firmly at 35,000 this year? Or, what do you think might qualify?
I know that some years there have been "promotions" for some members to achieve Elite with less than 35,000, but haven't seen any threads about it this fall. Have I missed something?
Any ideas?

You haven't missed anything, and you can never count on them reducing the target unless they actually say so. If you want to be sure of having Elite status next year, you have to fly the 35K.
Of course there's no way of knowing what Elite will actually give you, but it's likely to be more than being Prestige will.

Then we will tell you where to add segments to get you over 35000.
33,035 is completely unacceptable! People should lose their FT membership for such atrocities

And, since my only remaining trip* is a business trip, there is not really much flexability with it.
*odds are, anyway.

If you need to go to YEG, say, on November 28/30:
YOW-YEG-YOW is $259++ for 3550 miles
YOW-YYZ-YYC-YEG-YYC-YYZ-YOW $259++ for 5350 miles
If you need to go to YUL, OK there's not much you can do.

I am now at 30,000 and some change with another trip to take to Europe at Christmas but it is not certain. Not to take any chances, I have just booked a weekend T+ trip YUL-YYC-YVR-YUL for mid-November. I really value the Elite membership and since I will be most likely cancelling the Amex Aeroplan Plat. card, I will need E for lounge access. There are still almost two months to go and it cannot be that hard to get to 35,000 by Dec. 31 from 33,000 now.

I am travelling YOW-YYZ-YXE Nov 13 (departing at 14:00), returning YXE-YWG-YOW (departing at 8:00) Nov 17 for $863 (all in) on a T+. Returning through YYZ would have achieved an extra 329 miles (by my calculations), but the times were considerably worse and 329 miles would not be significant.

hmmmm.
I'm sure my wife would wonder when, exactly, I had completely lost it.

There wasn't much you could have done going out.
But would it have killed you to go through YYC on the way back, leaving at 6:30am?

First, take her somewhere nice that is at least 1000 miles away. Then take her to London in J next year using your upgrades, breezing 007-like in and out of lounges along the way.

That would be a dream job for me. I have never done that and since I have no wife, there is slim chance anytime soon! Cheers.

Was talking with a CDG-based colleague today who is in his 3rd year as E.
We checked out his ticketed upcoming flights (some intra-Europe on *A partners, X-Mas trip to YUL-YYY) for the remainder of the 2006 qualifying year: he will get to 34,956 Q miles......44 short of 35K.
He will likely do a quick turnaround ex-CDG to FRA or LHR to grab 2 x 250 or 2 x 500 (depending on fares) just to be sure he makes it over.
Anyone here ever been that close (i.e. -44 Q miles) and still get re-confirmed for E status the following year ?

While Veterans day is the first day of Christmas shopping, 3 November is the first day of "Will they give me status even though I'm 5% short?" threads.
If you don't have the minimum, then don't expect to land the status. If you don't like it, fly more, or do a mile run.

Hmm, I wonder if I'll do an MR if I get close enough to SE next year (and what is "close enough" anyway?
)
