Experience with posting missing points
Once again, I came back from a trip and all miles earned on UA flights did not post- even three weeks after the flights. Of course, these being from a *A carrier, we can't phone those in or use the web to request posting.
So I mailed everything to Vancouver as directed by the web site. Then I remembered there used to be a Dorval adrdress that was really fast at posting those missing points mailed in to them. Since I could not find the Dorval address I mailed the to YVR as specified.
What is the time I should expect between mail in date and posting?
Does anyone know if the Dorval address is still operating and if so what is it please?

Supplementary question (with apologies to the OP): Why is it that this happens so often even with Air Canada flights?
I make sure the number goes on the file when I book. I make sure to show my card to the person when I check-in. Yet it seems to happen far too often that the points fail to show up, and when, as in a recent example, it's from Shanghai, the points cannot be claimed on-line.
So why does this happen so often?
Furthermore I'm about to mail in, but I can't find the boarding pass, although I have the original e-ticket and the baggage receipts with my name on it are stuck to them. I also made a points-qualifying duty free purchase in-flight (also not yet credited) and used an SSWU, which must presumably be noted somewhere. But without the boarding pass, am I going to be denied the points?

Similar to the UA problem. - I had a series of flights on a AC paper ticket in June. The first and last sectors were on BD flights. One of the BD flights taken 17 June has not credited so far! Mailed ticket receipts and boarding card to the PO Box in YVR during first week in July. Over this weekend I made an e-enquiry to AP to confirm receipt of details. The reply received -'Thank you for your e-mail.
Kindly note that outstanding mileage claims can take between 6 to 8 weeks to be credited.

I have a Word document file as a template I use since this seems to be a regular occurance.
I find it rather annoying that you cannot fax or email the info in and have to use snail mail, c'mon it's 2006 already, AP is a dinosaur in this respect.

Remember the rule of thumb is the points hould post before the end of your next itinerary or within 1 week. Otherwise you're best to call ASAP.

Good news here.
I called the Elite number. Getting through to a human being was something of a struggle, and when I got one she said it was possibly a little late (nearly a month, but it depends on the departure point, and she advised calling sooner in these cases) but she would try to help.
The problem was that my e-ticket (purchased through an agent) didn't have the ticket number, and without that it would be impossible for her to confirm the points. I'd earlier passed my travel agency and gone in to ask, since I'd seen that the points could be claimed on-line (although later I noted that not if Shanghai was involved.) The person I spoke to had said he couldn't retrieve that information.
Pace the posting above, the number on my baggage tickets isn't the ticket number (and in fact it's different on the two different tickets).
The Aeroplan agent insisted that travel agents did indeed retain that information for some time, and suggested an alternative route to it involving contacting Air Canada's accounts department.
I called the agency hoping to get through to the actual individual I'd booked with, only to find that a new automated system puts you through to someone in the region somewhere. So I was just grinding my teeth gently and preparing to walk out of the door when the phone rang and it was Aeroplan calling me back. The agent had worked out that because she knew my outbound flight (which had been to Hong Kong) she could get to the information she needed via that route, and she had now ensured the miles were credited. She apologised for not having thought of that before.
The system may have failed this time, but top marks to Aeroplan for effort in sorting it out, thanks to the agent in question (whose name I unfortunately didn't memorise, but she was at all times at once polite, efficient, helpful, and apologetic), and thanks to YYZ Princess for suggesting this approach.

Has anyone had any luck with the "request milage credit" service on aeroplan.com? I've tried maybe 10 times over the last few years, and it hasn't worked even once. It seems kind of silly to have it on the site if it doesn't even work for my AC metal flights which I booked on aircanada.com while logged in with the correct AP number.
