A. Might hit P this year. Trip to MAN has been put off, so status miles/flights will have to be made up with domestic/transborder flights instead.
B. Never had status, not applicable C. Gunning for P only - first time to the dance, figure I'd start off slow :) D. See B. |
A. I'm currently SE but will probably not make it again this year. Probably will make E and end the year with 50K+. It's an unpopular opinion, I know, but I'd like to see the E threshhold raised to 50K and the benefits improved.
B. Took the 10K bonus, but on reflection I should have taken the 50 per cent mileage bonus, since I should easily make Elite threshhold even without the 10K. C. Building status in BA this year (hence not making SE). Since I'm SE this is obviously not because of the 45K SSWU issue. D. I've been an AP member since 2001. Prestige in 2002 and 2003. Elite in 2004 and 2005. SE this year and for the balance of last year after instant recognition. |
My work is such that I cannot really forecast too fare in advance what my business travel patterns will be, other than a few transcons between YYZ-YEG throughout the year. However, based on some personal travel I know I'll take, and one film project that has now been confirmed, I know I will be able to make Elite again for 2007/8.
However, having removed the 45K pair of SSWUs gives me no initiative to continue much further with AC on any overseas travel, or even transborder, if it is a certainty I will not have enough travel to hit SE. So, this change has definitely made me look at shifting non-domestic travel to a ONEWORLD carrier to maintain even GOLD/Ruby or PLATINUM/Sapphire status with AAdvantage. Monte and his boys have really blundered on this one... A. Are you expecting to: 1) going for SE at 100K Not likely given current forecast of business travel 2) E at well between 35K and 100K Not likely given the removal of the incentive of the 45K pair of SSWUs 3) E at 35K only Pretty much so 4) drop down to P at 25K Not likely, as I will pass that mark next month based on a personal trip 5) not going to qualify for status on AC. n/a B. Did you choose the bonus EQM to give you a head start? Nope, didn't see much benefit as I knew I'd easily make Elite again, and the lack of the 45K SSWU made that a "nothing threshold" to go after. 50% miles on AC and other select partners seemed more useful in the end. C. If you are stopping early at 35K due to the changes in the Elite, which other program do you plan to build status in? As above, it will be my AAdvantage ONEWORLD account that gets built up from overseas and transborder travel. Without the 45K SSWUs there is no incentive to fly STAR carriers either. D. How many years have you had status with AC (include CP if you were ex-CP)? How many years at E or SE? If your current profile does not have other Elite staus you hold, please state them too. Since elite tiers were added to both AC's and CP's programs, I have held either ELITE or PRESIDENTS GOLD in each, and after the merger SE for four years. Have well over 1 million status miles with each program. Close to five million miles from all sources when the two programs are combined. So unless I take on a project that will make it relatively painless to achieve SE, I have no incentive to stay with AC/AE once I've passed my 35K Elite threshold requirement. Loyalty has seldom been rewarded under the new regime at AC. About the only good thing was moving back to 100% for domestic flights, and the reintroduction of SSWUs. Each year upgrade fare validity was upped a notch and SE benefits pulled. Whenever one gave AC more business, they removed another elite benefit. This year it was the 45K SSWU, so why do anything more than the minimum? (And don't give us the BS about Passes. These are still too expensive for microbusinesses, and even T+ are not cost-effective as they average $100 more than the usual T+ fare that can be booked even on short notice.) |
A. Are you expecting to:
1) going for SE at 100K, B. Did you choose the bonus EQM to give you a head start? No- only the flight bonuses for AC/LH C. If you are stopping early at 35K due to the changes in the Elite, which other program do you plan to build status in? After 100 I will go to see if I can keep my SEN status D. How many years have you had status with AC (include CP if you were ex-CP)? How many years at E or SE? If your current profile does not have other Elite staus you hold, please state them too. Including CP...no idea..but remember clearly what a great program it was- have kept e or se depending on the year since then. |

A. Are you expecting to:
1) I will hit 35K by end of April and due to the removal of the 45K SSWU will only fly a couple more segments with AC after that. B. Did you choose the bonus EQM to give you a head start? Yes...if I'm jumping ship I wanted to get it over with quickly C. If you are stopping early at 35K due to the changes in the Elite, which other program do you plan to build status in? I have flown on Alaska a few times and really enjoyed their service. From YVR they have a fairly good schedule. I will probably go for AS MVP which should be reachable by Dec. Alternatively, I might start using my AirMiles (from all those Safeway purchases) on West Jet and start charging the equivalent ticket value back to the company. D. How many years have you had status with AC (include CP if you were ex-CP)? How many years at E or SE? If your current profile does not have other Elite staus you hold, please state them too. P for 1 year, E for 4 years. |
1) Aiming for 200k this year (and hopefully give the GF Elite status, if that option is still around)
2) No, did not select bonus QM. 3) All will go towards Aeroplan. |

Undecided yet.. 2 years I made sure I hit 50K or so for the 2 SSWUs. I think I would either go for SE or hold at 35K E but no middle ground. Would also be interested to hear from members who hit higher Elite status this year i.e. general member hitting P, P hitting E or E hitting SE for instant status if you are allowed to choose a package or are you given the default package. I made E this year for the first time (I was P a few years back) and was able to choose all of the my options like everyone else. |
after 13 yrs of AC only, and 4 years of SE status .. last year I put 60k into AA/CX to get platinum, and another 50k into AC for E status.
this year I might go back to SE just for the better u/g chances on the new AC seats for next year. I'll hit AP E status by end of this mth (playing a game of chicken on AC16 next week with a 90 minutes connecting time at HKG for SIN). I took the SSWU and 50% bonus. |

I think I am scheduled to hit E 35K around early to mid April and I have Sun Pass(s) and a soon to be expired weekend pass (which I had mistakenly thought valid till end of Sept till Sat. :( ) so have to make the decision soon personally and wanted to see what others are thinking. Thanks. I think all of us would find the results enlightening... |

I will stick with AC, as the 50% are a nice added touch for sure. This is my 2nd year with status, last year I was P, now Elite. I want to build up my miles this year, then I will probably blow many of them next year.

I will likely be between 50 and 60K. If it looks like I am going to make it over 60K I am seriously considering a couple of MR's to make SE for the instant KK benefits for next year.
This is my 4th year with E status and the closest I have come to SE was the first year when I had around 77k with the majority being on 50% Q mile fares at the time. |
