Air Canada in late-January 2023 plans to resume nonstop service to Mainland China, which sees the airline operates Vancouver – Shanghai Pu Dong route on nonstop basis. From 31JAN23

Air Canada ...... plans to increase capacity on Montreal – Tokyo Narita route, as the airline schedules 450-seater Boeing 777-300ER service from 21SEP23 to 27OCT23, Montreal departure

AC moved YVR-PVG to leave at 10:40am, which allows for connection from the first flight from YYZ that arrives at 8:51am but AC is not selling that connection when you try to book YYZ-PVG, only offering overnight connections. It's puzzling that AC is going to give up the China market from YYZ.
I forgot that YVR-PVG isn't daily, they do sell same day connections.

If you start your search on google flights, you can get it to show up on the AC website:

But, the fares are insane. CX has a decent PE fare from YYZ to PVG ($1347) with a 2.5 hour layover in HK.

How is Y any different on the 450 seat 77W vs the 400 seat 77W or 300 seat 77L?

Pax to lav ratio in Y is quite a bit worse on the 450-seat vs the other 777s.

This seems to be a pretty successful route. Not a long time with the HD 77W, but that's a big upgauge from the 789. Didn't they only first announce this route shortly before COVID?

Largely for the Fall changing of the leaves which is a huge draw for Japanese traffic. There have been separate charters in the past run by ANA and JAL specifically for this event.

422/8 = 1 lav for every 52.75 pax
360/7 = 1 lav for every 51.4 pax

I would say the 2.5% difference constitutes a "bit" rather than "quite a bit".

The operative words being "in Y". Yes the PY lavs on the HD are generally accessible from Y if you can get to them. But if you're counting lavs in Y for Y passengers specifically the ratios are 336/7 (48) vs 398/6 (~66.3). In practice it's a noticeable difference, to me anyway.

FINALLY

just in time for Doors Open

timing kinda sucks compared to the old YEG-YOW flight

YOW dep. 16:25 arr. YEG 18:42
YEG dep. 19:45 arr. YOW 01:33

the old flight (flights?) was a midnight red-eye eastbound but at least arrived in the morning so I could catch the first bus out...

at least there's still a tiny bank of flights arriving at this time, some international as well

They appear to be cutting the second daily YOW-YYC/YYC-YOW flights to offer the YOW-YEG flights. There's now only a very early morning departure on YOW-YYC and the usual morning/afternoon return on YYC-YOW for the summer season. They must think they can make more money flying to YEG, but to me, this is a present for WestJet and Flair.

The old flight was a B767-200.
