AC issues with Leap year

Booked a flight departing February 29th. Email confirming seats came back with March1st.

Called in. Apparently there was a system glitch with a Leap year issue.

Hmmmm.... those darn leap years popping up when you least expect it.

So, their IT folks never knew there is such a thing. Really, should we be surprised? Should we send a calendar to Calin perhaps?

Same here. Booked a flight on February 29 . Seat map on the website pulls up the flight for March 1. Called in and the agent saw the correct seat map.

Added intrigue. Agent said all is good, emailed me itinerary. Says Feb 29th. Tell me that if I log into ac.com it will show Feb 29th. Well...ac.com shows March 1st. But the AC app shows Feb 29th.

Wow... just wow

I hear there may be some problem with AC's computers when we switch from Dec 31, 1999 to Jan 1, 2000 - can they handle 4 digit years instead of only the last 2 digits?
Will all the planes in the air at that time come crashing down?

Don't book stuff on February 29th bro! You've brought this upon yourself. There are many other less glitch-prone days you could've chosen from but you still had to choose February 29th ?!

BTW: February 29th should be a global holiday.

I also read here recently that AC added a new leap day of September 31.

This shines some light on how AC backend works. Many databases and languages can handle datetime object very well even with leap second, let alone leap day. When part of the system can handle leap day but other parts can’t, it tells something.

AC.com My Bookings still showing March 1st. CSR assures me that the 'main' system shows February 29th and it will sync up shortly. Should we start a pool for when it will sync?

The Chinese calendar adds a whole leap month to keep up with the lunar cycle. Perhaps Air Canada has outsourced this part of its IT to a firm that supports lunar calendars?

We'll know for sure when bookings after December 2020 open up.

I think you should give AC a break over this issue. It's not like leap years are actually predictable or anything.
