I've had four opups this year. Three were definitely W&B and the other I believe was an an oversell. In all cases I was watching the upgrade list because I suspected I could get an opup and I was curious if it was automated. In all cases my name (and others) popped up with a green checkmark 5 minutes after the flight closed. The timing makes me think it's automated.

Good to know!

Like many others here, I'm never in a position for an opup, so I have no anecdotes of my own.

I'm glad to see they're automating more and more. Less work for the GA, and fewer shenanigans.

I've had the same experience with opups - it appears like a confirmed eUpgrade in the app, shortly after check in closes.

There's a fair amount of evidence in this thread that I'm doing it wrong.

You and me both. I can't even reliably get eUps I waitlist for because J0 at departure. I book on my FP when my window is open so I confirm those when I book. There seems to be nothing in between. Had ONE opup Y to PY 2 years ago for oversell Y. That's all.

I have had the same experience. My last op-up was on a YYZ-YOW last week, and LHR-YYZ two weeks before. Both times with green checkmark.

It always resulted in a checkmark, but what I didn't realize was that it was part of the automated PDM run.

I take the point.
I have to go where I have to be when I have to be there.
Were I able to fly for sport, perhaps I could choose routes for the sake of having a 6% chance of opup.

Chance of an op-up YYZ-YQT - July 1, 2021

E35K here on a standard fare, and EF reports the following:

J4 C4 D4 Z4 P4 R4 Y0 B0 M0 U0 H0 Q0 V0 W0 G0 S0 T0 L0 A0 K0 F0

It's the last flight of the day.

Are my op-up chances good?

I'm fine sitting in Y, but I thought I'd see what the FT prognosticators will predict before the standby/upgrade list becomes active on the 30th.

This is my first of 50K worth of flights this summer, so let's start off with a bang, eh?

It's over by a few in the back. It really depends what happens between now and Thursday evening.

Any employees in the back will get the upgrade before you do. Then anyone with higher status.

Why does AC do that, depart with a less than full J cabin with SE Million Milers in Y?

Have they never heard of the concept of "surprise and delight"?

Clearly they believe we have no other option than to fly Maple-flot, but I guess maybe that's right....

Why does every airline outside of the US do that, you mean?

SE MMs get more than enough eUps to ensure they never have to sit in Y.
