Another of those contract clauses that is up for re-negots. Look for ZIP to be the New Domestic Air Canada.

That was back in Dec when AC had plans to bring back one of the ex-CAIL 744s.

There are no more 763s on order. Only A319/A320/A321/A345/A346.

IB is nowhere close to dumping orders for the A340-600, they just confirmed the order count to Airbus today. The firm vs. options changed (market conditions) but the order WAS confirmed.

Also on the PTV's it's ALOT cheaper to add these prior to interior fit out than adding them later or sacrificing the product compared to CX/SQ/BA.

Remember AC has competitors... Sacrificing the product is great for the short term but horrendous a year down the road.

Adding PTV's or other in cabin eqiupment isn't going to alter the overall cash state of AC on leased aircraft.

Looks like 9 hard just went down to 5 - I would say that's got to hurt. Everyone knows options are good for zilch right now - just ask Embraer.

Live entertainment?

Before that, I'd most likely be looking at NW to be my New Domestic Air Canada.

Looks like no deliveries for the next little while. Up to 7 aircraft not coming between now and this summer, including the 340-500's

What 4% of their fleet does AC still own?

While it hurts Boeing to have these A343's sitting around, it hurts more to lose sales of new Boeing metal.

Long term, Boeing is a cheaper ride, and most folks know that. Two engines less to maintain, and the whole nine yards.

Right now, production planners at Airbus are looking at their run and it is not so pretty - which is why I say the A340-600's will be a hot property to land on someone's doorstep. The pricing is excellent, and given the Canadian market, they are a safe place to put them looking forward.

MSN,
Actually the argument of the Quads vs Twins is very much subjective. Quads are supposed to be better for long haul, while twins are better for shorter hauls...

Actually the A346 still has a good delivery slots for this year.

MU, IB and LH become new users of the aircraft this year. SA and VS also get more planes this year. Delivery slots are fairly full right now. It might not be that easy to order and get them delivered this year.

Options still do carry some weight as prices are usually guranteed and there is a fee for it.

With regards to Embraer, they also say their firm order get halved... Swiss basically cannot afford the full order. It was an outright cancellation of both firm orders and options.. That hurts.

With the IB, there was no order placed until today.. So 5 planes is still better than zero. Order book infact grew by 5 aircraft..

I've read this thread with interest, however I'm not the person who wrote the above. Therefore the emails regarding certain posts in this thread are misdirected and unappreciated. Thanks.

One has to ask why can a "discount airline" like Jetblue offer FREE seat back PTV's, with 22 channels of DirectTv no less in every seat on it's A320's and a "full service" airline like AC doesn't?

Has there been any changes on the delivery of aircraft into the AC fleet?

B767,
Very few carriers provide Free seat back PTVs in North America. Yes, Jet Blue provides them and Song... DL's low cost carrier also hopes to provide them.. But not immediately...While DL mainline will not see them on their fleet for the time being.

Installing them will be great. But it is usually very expensive and time consuming to install them , especially when the plane is already operating. For new aircraft it is great to have them installed prior to service as AC hopes on their A345s.

But I suspect right now AC will need to concentrate on cutting costs before thinking about sepnding more money.

717 is possible in AC fleet. The Star Alliance is looking at a group buy for 717-200/-300.

This includes Lufthansa, SAS, Austrian Airlines, and possibly United.
