They don't want more SEs... they want to extract more money from the one's they have. Or the E75s they can convince to buy-up

Oops sorry. You are right. Makes my question even more relevant. $11K in extra AQD or $1,599. Easy decision. Of course it depends on the OPs actual AQD.

And so who is now devaluing the product

What monkey came up with the idea that SE would NOT notice they are being duped by AC sleight of hand.

good news for me - just reinforces my decision years ago to follow Wpgjetse advice.

Just book what works best, and stop chasing the peanuts that AC throws out.

So AC actually wants more cheapeners. There you have it, the end of the FFP.

It is a "good deal" based on the $8000 delta math - I came close but decided to move to United for a variety of reasons (mostly better priced Canada-US options and comp upgrades) so I didn't pursue hitting the AQD.

Honestly - I'm happy with UA-MP. Silver status already got me 9 upgrades out of my 26 segments so far this year. The beer tasted a lot colder in business class knowing I was offered the seat and didn't have to play the e-upgrade game (which I couldn't use anyway on United metal!). Definitely feeling the love, and service has been pretty comparable to AC.

All that said - if my flights change to CDN-CDN destinations, I'll probably lift the offer.

Exactly. Altitude is not a loyalty program. You can buy the supposedly 'elite' levels now.

Well, ya. Others here have a different view and have posted as such, along the lines of why they think AC went with the $20K AQD requirement for SEs

Agree.

What about the incremental cost of providing SE benefits? Surely that has to be worth more than 1,599$ in co-pays alone?

Just received a similar email, offering P25k for 399$, currently with no status (missed 25k by 2k AQM and 375$ AQD), only 10k AQM and almost 6k AQD since begining of the year

Honestly, would have paid for it in the same situation.
Worth. You make it back with 2 TPAC upgrades, not mentioning IKK etc

Woohoo just got an email too. I can buy my way from 75K to SE100K for $1299!

Sure beats waiting till sometime in May/June to reach early recognition.

And there is the rub.

AC wants people who want status to fly a certain number of miles and spend a specific amount of money.

Then, they turn around and "reduce the value of the status" (some would say ) by offering that higher status for a fee.

Those being offered the buy up neither spent the full amount required nor flew the miles needed.

Fascinating isn't it.

My email today says $1299 from 75K to SE100K.

Is my 75K higher status than your 75K?

What incremental costs? Realistically? Concierge availability at $14/hr and a bunch of eUpgrade credits. How much can the former possibly cost? Let's say an SE uses a concierge for 2 hours a month, that's like $336 for the year. And if you're using a concierge that much, you're probably already SE.

What about eUpgrades? I still see plenty of empty seats in J cabins... so they're giving you a little more monopoly money to snag a few upgrades that they really should be giving you anyway but don't want to because they don't want to look like their cheapening the product. Did I get that right?

No, the biggest value in this offer is gifting someone E50. That alone is worth wayyyyyy more than $1599 and yet, if we're honest with ourselves, it doesn't really translate into much for the E75 being made this offer. Oh, and it comes at the expense of extra miles or eupgrade credits

ETA: I was remiss in neglecting the IKK privilege... that's a big one. Thanks to JJ for pointing it out.
