When is a codeshare not a codeshare?

When is a codeshare not a codeshare?
Hi all. Long time reader here. Need some help with all the expert here.
I originally booked YYZ-YVR-KIX for coming October. However I found out that the YVR-KIX leg had a schedule change for 6 hours! (which defeat my only reason for taking the Rouge flight) So I called up AC reservation to see if YYZ-NRT-ITM is something they can accommodate. After a few blind transfers (why they do that?), a very helpful agent listed out all my options. When I ask about YYZ-NRT-ITM, I was told she can't put me on it because the NRT-ITM flight (AC6254) is not AC codeshare!
I told her it said so in the website:
and she responded saying yes she sees that too but her system said it isn't.
So, my questions is: How's that possible?

I can't answer your question, but I flew ITM - NRT - YVR last week and I bought it on AC.com no problem. In fact it was much cheaper than buying NRT - YVR on its own and buying a separate ticket to NRT.

Are you and the agent looking at the same thing? Your post references AC6253 but the flight referenced in your quote is AC6254.
Sorry I'm using my phone right now and don't have time to do any real investigation on this.

On a sked change you can ask for just about anything that will get you to your destination within a few hours of the original time booked. That could include putting you on a flight to NRT or HND and then onto an NH flight even if it is not a codeshare and they cannot charge you anything more. And if you can find that through fare at less than you paid on the AC site, you should be owed a refund of the difference.
