November 1995, I flew LHR-YVR on a 74E. Upstairs was all Y. I got the exit row.
$399+tax round trip.

In 2001, could have been an ex-CP?

I believe otherwise the only 747s AC had at that point were the combis. Which did have J upstairs, but were only operating flights out of YYZ, LHR and FRA. Because of the freight market.

Correct me if I am wrong but there was nothing flying on September 12, 2001. I definitely flew an Air Canada 747, upper deck J LHR - YVR when flights did return a few days later. It was not a combi but may have been ex CP as noted up thread.

You're correct. I think North American airspace was shut down for 3 days. I remember a friend who was into astronomy commenting it was a unique opportunity to observe the skies without jet contrails.

I flew LHR-YYC in 1998 on CP and it was a DC10. Doesn't help you if you flew AC.

I don't remember any ex CP B747's in the AC fleet. There was a combi Fin308 ex QF which had 7 upper deck pallet positions.
Fins306/307 had 6 and later on B744 Fins341/342/343 had a 7th position (UT).

My memory is fuzzy, but going back to 1980ish, Fins were 302, 303, 304, 305 and combis 306, 307.

Not entirely correct. It was US airspace which was closed on 11th September with result that the East and West Coast airports in Canada became the recipients of US bound aircraft from Europe and Aisia. Air Canada flights in/out of Canada arriving from / from going to the NORTH e.g. to LHR etc and to HKG continued on 12 September but with very significant delay. I waited around YVR for many hours for the LHR flight which because of the many parked US bound aircraft blocking the international wing meant that Air Canada international arrivals and departures were using the domestic "C" gates.
I was origionally booked to LHR on September 11 (cancelled) hence my rebooking on the 12th and my recollection of the seating. The 12th flight was way overbooked and I "traded " my J seat for a confirmed Y seat. At boarding my Y boarding card was exchanged for the last J seat upstairs in the 747.

On the 12th YVR was jammed with travellers when I arrived just before noon and found airport staff handing out bottled water. The AC desks were overwelmed and there were repeated announcements for the LHR folk to take a walk outside to allow the HKG flight to be cleared first. Evenually when I had checked in the line up for security at pier C was extended way back to the entrance to pier A/B - that was a long line !

They kept their own four combis for a while longer. I often flew on those, YYZ-FRA I clearly remember, and possibly YYZ-LHR?

The thing you cite mentions it was scrapped...

They had three -100 series, until 1998. I remember them on YYC-LHR. Y upstairs in later years.

Yes, but wasn't there some skullduggery involving the Quebec wing of the Liberal Party? Nation Air?

OT, notice G(olf) taxiway leading to the new 747 hangar with the Niagara Escarpment in the background.

AC models were combis. Also flew 747-combi on YOW-YUL-LHR (the -1oo(I thought -200C?) and later the 744)

Non-combi were CP. 747-475. Mainstay on YVRHKG and could well have been the bird that took the OP on YVRLHR
