On a few flights recently I have noticed that Last Tango in Paris was one of the movie selections. I was in J class pods at the time so your neighbour can't see your screen as well but if someone was watching this in Y class it might shock some of their seatmates. Or is there a different movie selection in Y class?
Some folks (not me) would consider this to be soft core porn - I was surprised to see this as one of the options. Brings a whole new meaning to when the FA offers you butter.

It's amazing how uptight we as North Americans get over a bit of nudity.
After spending a few weeks in Greece traveling with a Spanish girl my eyes were opened to how strange most of us are raised to think about the human body.
Nothing wrong with risqué in my newly opened mind.

I have no issue with sex and nudity on television or in films, and wouldn't find the need to self-censor those things (and certainly most of it doesn't fall into the category of 'porn'!) The variables of what people consider inappropriate is quite interesting; one poster recently claimed that the latest Bond film had 'explicit sex', and having watched it just before reading that I went back to find any sex, and there was none.
But I DO have an issue with violence. I find the violence in American prime time television, and the films shown on IFE, absolutely abhorrent.
I'll take sex over violence anyday but I won't demand that you or the airline censor your violence. Just leave me my sex and my nudity. It's healthy and harmless.

There was nudity in Gangs of New York, my friend found lots in Trance, and Scarface had a brief flash or two. I have no problems with it, but I'd understand if my seatmate was squeamish about it.
More amusing is when they place certain movies under the different categories. I recall some kind of Adam Sandler movie being categorized under the "Classics" banner.

Actually it is all about saving jet fuel.
It has been proven that the plane flies more efficiently, less drag and air resistance, when the passengers are stiff and fully erect.

UA tells its passengers in the Hemispheres magazine that they're welcome to view content on their devices up to a max of "R".
I really do need to take a pic next time of amusingly categorized movies and post it here. Unfortunately, no flights for me until Thanksgiving weekend.

But that too is subjective. One of my favourite German films, based on a Bavarian novelist's massive bestseller, is suggested rated 12 and up in Germany and other countries in Europe. (Ratings don't mean that much as they are just a voluntary, suggested guideline) My copy has that rating.
It's R in America, based in large part due to what I always interpreted as a visual depiction of the rapture, but which according to most American viewers (the film bombed in the US) is a mass orgy.
It's one film which stays active in my iTunes library and I don't self-censor it.

For a North American airline I do consider this risqué given the fact that Maria Schneider spends a good part of the movie partially naked and she and Marlon spend half of the movie having sex, including of the . I don't have a problem with sex, I just was surprised to see this on the IFE.
