ACV eUpgrades

I'm stuck buying a ticket through ACV. Going to HAV and buying on AC.com is no longer possible.

For HAV, the $300 upgrade isn't available..I'd have to pay and extra $1,000 for that..not worth it for that length of flight, imo.

Was looking into using eUpgrades and came across this page.

It suggests that AC E and SE can use eUpgrades on G,N,P& E booking classes, which IIRC are Tango fares. Is correct? Tango fares only can be upgraded? Dummy booking today was in L which is Flex (confirmed over the phone) which isn't in this list.

How are lower level fares upgradeable, but higher ones not? Or am I missing something?

This is the new Altitude program upgradeability for SEs on ACV. So, yes this is true starting March 1, 2013.

The AC enhancement is for E75K and S100K. So ACV will probably update their site to be more specific in the next few weeks.

I see that now, thanks. The booking class doesn't make sense, but I don't qualify anyway as an E50K. Note that departures from Cuba are excluded.

Yes the whole point of it is that you can book ACV booking classes (which are normally Tango) and still request an upgrade at check-in (NA and Sun destinations only). SEs can also do the same for these routes on Aeroplan tickets.

Most of these routes (except for Cuba) you can book in Flex on aircanada.com, so there are still ways to make them upgrade eligible.

Makes sense. Now if the ACV class is in Flex (as my HAV flight looks to be) can I request upgrade like a normal Flex fare?

AFAIK, Flex is Flex, so yes.

I think you still have to be E75 or SE100 to upgrade in ACV even if you are in a Flex fare. Hopefully, for your sake, I'm wrong.

ACV will generally not book into Flex for economy. But the rule of thumb is to only use them if there is a price advantage for a Y or J fare (often will be for sun destinations) over ac.com, or if you're bundling your hotel with the trip.

Otherwise book directly from aircanada.com

I would if I could.

Flights to Cuba cannot be booked on aircanada.com anymore. All flights must be booked through ACV. Attempts to book on AC just redirect to ACV. The fare I'm booking is "L" which is Flex and I've confirmed that this is the AC booking class for the flight as well.
