Comp. Status?

I am a Gold-Member at USAir. Does Air Canada matches my status and how should I do it?

Thanks

I one time inquired and was turned down. I suspect that they still don't.

Why would you want to be an Aeroplan top tier member?

Just in case you are wondering about the previous two responses -- some of the folks on the AC board are getting a bit cynical/grumpy right now -- having AC Elite status is better than having no status at all IMHO.

I think you'll have more luck with UA -- they seem to comp status (* Gold) at the drop of a hat -- check out the UA board.

How exactly? Just get a DC MLL card - its a lot cheaper.

True. You don't have to wait for an hour to speak to an agent on the phone or to check in. And you can visit the MLL if you are travelling alone. That's about it ... have I missed anything?

Of course, if you fly West Jet, you also don't have to wait for an hour to speak to an agent on the phone or to check in. And you won't need the lounge because their planes generally leave on time.

A bit cynical ACORD!?!

Actually...having no status is almost the same as Elite IMO.

Air Canada has turned their "loyalty" program into a joke...just watch the business leave.

If you tend to fly at the last minute, Elite will give you upgrades you wouldn't otherwise have.

If you tend to fly alone, Elite gives you free lounge access (including partner lounges worldwide).

If Elites still get two MLL guest passes, that's a $40 saving if you ever travel with a non-Elite.

So while Elite isn't what it should be, it's better than no status.

Best reason for *G status with AC, or any other non UA *A carrier is the RCC access!

The main benefit now is you get *Gold with Elite - which gives you a better chance at E+ seating on UA. I think that Aeroplan is probably the easiest airline to get *G on - unless you actually fly in Canada on AC with less than full-fare tickets.

..or you fly AC tranborder or international. Q miles accumulation is still ok there.

I've been told by Marc (VP of Aeroplan) that they do not comp members from other airlines. The last comp that I heard from this board was all the way back in the CP days, so maybe he was right.

I'm note sure I'd believe anyone from Aeroplan regarding anything at all.

It is my understanding that Aeroplan Marketing Department (as opposed to Aeroplan itself) does indeed process comps (in batches). Though I must say; I too wonder why you would want one? I would imagine it will take more time and energy than it's worth. The benefits are negligible and the service is mediocre at best. Redemptions are a rip-off on many routings and there are no tier bonuses. If you want recognition and decent service I would avoid AC and look elsewhere. As an Elite this year, the only real benefit was the ability to get through on the phone. And the fact that is considered a *benefit* at AC should tell you something about how they treat their customers.
