If you tend to fly at the last minute, Elite will give you upgrades you wouldn't otherwise have.

If you tend to fly alone, Elite gives you free lounge access (including partner lounges worldwide).

If Elites still get two MLL guest passes, that's a $40 saving if you ever travel with a non-Elite.

So while Elite isn't what it should be, it's better than no status.
