If you booked 6 months out, there's no way all the flights could be overbooked. Stop trashing AC in all aspects dude... you credibility is not high in my mind.</font>

If AC is to survive, they need to protect the revenue. Their experts see the AP changes as some ways of acheiving this. I think they're wrong, taht there are bigger fish to fry, but I don't have all the details to judge. I wish them all the best.

Guy Betsy.....
I am going to Rio Thursday on a converted revenue seat....but since I "usually" book my award tickets way in advance....getting a seat has never been a problem for me. This is the first time that I've had AC convert a revenue seat for me.
Now having done that.....I wanted to make a change 3 weeks ago and the agent said politely to "forget about it" as ever flight was "oversold" by 30+ pax and changes were impossible as a result. If it wasn't oversold....it would have been no problem to get whatever I wanted.
It's a dubious benefit at best IMHO.

Being SuperElite couldn't get me a confirmed seat on an award ticket either. I thought that one would get a revenue seat 'changed' to an award seat if available. I was told, rather rudely, by the UK award people that it's not guaranteed when 'the back' is oversold and we have to move people up!
OK....?</font>

Am I missing something?

An oversold flight doesn't necessary mean that you can no longer buy a seat. An airline will still take bookings on an oversold flight, it's just take the SE desk won't give you an award seat in those cases because they anticipate the needs of empty J seats for operational upgrades or denied boarding situation.

I think many an airline will be happy to sell you a seat on an oversold flight. If you're willing to pony up a full Y fare, they're likely more than willing to reciprocate the favour and bump off a lower-yield pax!

Just a note to the illustrious GB. Nice to discover you visiting Toronto this week. Sorry about not having any snow to offer you, particularly at this time of year. Otherwise, glad you paid us a quick visit here in the AC forum. Have appreciated your long history of posts elsewhere on FlyerTalk, under this and your previous Celestar username.

We recently wanted to take our children with us to Europe on UAL. We purchased with lots of advance. But, very short notice with the kid's award tix.
We coughed up 80,000 miles each and they suddenly had space on all legs, including heavily overbooked segs.
