I was of the same mindset with respect to being trapped in the AC bubble which has burst this year as my first time reaching E/*G as its been a complete waste with AC. Not only have i been skunked on the Aero-Lotto (trying to use eupgrades) but its also now become more difficult to retain the same status for next year.
At this point, i'm going to try and use up my eupgrade credits, make use of the lounge access and then credit to either UA or others as even though you fly AC you can still credit to them and not be left in the cold especially on long haul flights for minimal credited mileage as you do with AC
