AC*E does not necessarily equal *G?
 

Up until now, 35,000 status miles = AC*E = *G.

In 2013, assuming the 50,000 level is called Elite, AC*E will still mean *G.

I currently have 40,000 status miles. I was told today that until I hit 50,000, I will be in a weird place of early qualifying for AC*E but still remaining *S.

Does this make sense? I fully acknowledge that if I stopped collecting status miles right now, I would be *S for 2013, but I thought we were still in 2012.

Run for the hills and drop the rotten apple that is AE and either credit towards UA or Aegean like most others have!!

You will "early"-qualify for AC*E 2012, so you will get *G for the rest of 2012 program year.

For 2013 though, you will only get *S.

But that's just it -- I don't have *G right now according to USAir and Aeroplan. AP said I need another 10,000 status miles to get *G (I will probably get there in a couple months).

Neil791, as someone that's new to this, it just seems counterintuitive to me to use another program when I mostly fly AC. If I was worried about getting to 50,000 I definitely see your point to use Aegean.

many who left AC/ AP for US loyalty programs needed lounge access, hence the mileage posted to Aegean for this.

I have no status at the moment, but will make E (35k miles) by August. I assumed this would at least get me *G until Feb, but it sounds like it might not. The AE website shows 2012 Elite as having early status recognition and *G, so perhaps this is worth challenging.

Well, maybe this was a false alarm.

gonzalesflyer, if it makes you feel any better I just called again and got a different answer. This time I was told it's just a timing issue and *G takes longer than Elite.

Does anyone know how I can check later on if I am *G in "the system" without having a flight booked?

Sounds like a timing issue. Perhaps the upload of *G status doesn't happen daily? Anyway, if you hit 35,000 miles before October, you're *E for 2012 and *G for the remainder of 2012.

<50,000 miles will only give you *S for 2013, though.

What's interesting though, is I thought lounge access was one of the perks 35K *Ses could get in 2013. What will your card say in order to get past some lounge dragon at a US airways lounge? If it doesn't say *G how do you get in? Ditto early boarding (although I think the US carriers give that to *S, come to think of it...)

Standard perks are MLL access (not *A lounge access) and priority services on AC, not *A airlines.

Optional perk is *A lounge access...I assume they would just give you the MLL Club Worldwide card.

Imagine the boarding calls next year:

"Ladies and gentlemen, before we begin boarding this aircraft, we would now like to invite any people who need special assistance or more time or who are traveling with small children to board now. At this point, we would also like to invite all Air Canada 35K, 50K, 75K, Super Elites, and *A Gold members to board now or at their convenience."

I was of the same mindset with respect to being trapped in the AC bubble which has burst this year as my first time reaching E/*G as its been a complete waste with AC. Not only have i been skunked on the Aero-Lotto (trying to use eupgrades) but its also now become more difficult to retain the same status for next year.
At this point, i'm going to try and use up my eupgrade credits, make use of the lounge access and then credit to either UA or others as even though you fly AC you can still credit to them and not be left in the cold especially on long haul flights for minimal credited mileage as you do with AC :td:

If you can't make the 50K threshold for next year, sign up for Aegean and you only need to post 19K for your *G card for all lounges worldwide.
If you want e credits you need to stick to AC and hit the 50K.
UG are very difficult even for SE's this year and will get worse as AC brings in new metal with a lot fewer J seats. Moved to UA for next year already. Tired of Aerolotto.
Depending on end mileage once past 100K in June with UA will look at other programs.
