What does the AC Concierge do?

Apparently not much at YUL this morning.

I get to the airport about 13 minutes before scheduled departure, no plane, no agents. Find a board to look up the flight number and see the flight was cancelled. I went to the customer service counter told I was moved to the next flight and get a new BP.

No email and no call. :-/

Contrast that to YVR where I always get a call telling me of a flight delay/cancellation/change - even when my departure is not YVR but YVR happens to be my transfer port to my final destination. ^

Complete fail, even not status passengers should be told of a cancelled flight ahead of time.

Why not sign yourself up for flight notification? It's instant and your assured to be updated of any changes. You have the tools at your disposal you just don't use them..

The same flight notification tool that notifies me of phantom gate changes after I board? Or maybe the one that tells me to check in hours after I've already checked in?

There's no excuse for an airline not informing a customer that the flight they paid for has been cancelled. None. And there shouldn't be any onus on passenger to subscribe to some notification system, either.

Welcome to FT.

You mean entering my email/phone during OLCI for "flight change notifications" doesn't count as signing myself up for flight notifications?

No no. That one's useless.

Try the one that sends multiple departure gate notifications when you're flying out of a single gate airport.

Ooooooooh thanks! I'll give it a shot :D

Oh, you've been to YQF too and seen that! Nice!

Now now people... :D

To R.Lukaku's defense, TripIt's notifications I have found to be very good and pretty darn accurate... I often get them ahead of AC staff and they are always shocked that they see it after I tell them.

I think a concierge was waiting for me and my party outside the YVR dom lounge last night, but I was in a rush and she shouted something about boarding passes as I ran past.

She got us on standby (and cleared it) for an earlier flight though, while we were in the air and clearing customs.

That's a rather presumptuous (and arrogant) statement for you to make considering you have no idea what check-in and flight notification mechanisms I use.

Perhaps you skimmed over and missed the

No email and no call. :-/
remark I made in my post? The intent of including the "no email and no call" was to convey that I have provided AC will all the relevant contact information in addition to signing up for the flight notifications.

One of the many results of having flown several millions of miles covering the three major alliances is that I am quite familiar with the various notification and communications channels for the respective airlines I fly with.

Great first post on FT BTW - you'll fit in just fine here! ^

YVR Concierge FTW!! Yet again!!

I had three flight changes to make last weekend, called the concierge at 00:40 to move from a ~08:00 departure to a ~14:00 and change of routing. The flight was an Amex FP booking with an eUp. The concierge cancelled my check-in, changed the flights, confirmed the eUp and linked my PNR with a friend.

All said and done in 8 minutes!! ^

You titled this "YVR Concierge FTW!!", but I'd like to clarify whom you actually called.

Unless you have an unpublished number, there's no way to contact a specific station. And even if you have their number, I do not believe YVR concierges are still around at 0040.

Was it the central line, for a flight out of YVR, or did you actually call YVR?

Yes, it was the central line for a flight out of YVR. I called while in Whistler and during our conversation I asked where she was located, she said Vancouver.

I also know better now not to call the SE line for similar late day last minute changes. I made a similar change while in Vancouver the previous weekend which resulted in a cacophony of errors, ghosted seats on multiple flights and a series of cross-country support phone calls to fix the mess that was made by the SE desk agent. It was an interesting night trying to get back east! :D:p Which ultimately ended better than I could have expected! ;)

That's interesting. I thought the call centre was exclusively in Toronto. Maybe they're expanding.
