^ Plenty of time off (both paid and unpaid) is one of the main reasons I've chosen to remain in the employ of Her Majesty.

Thanks, but I know quite a few FTers who are tech guys and gals who fly all over the planet fixing high end equipment or patching up software glitches. One fixes light houses and another repairs elevators on cruise ships...talk about your cool/kewl jobs!

A job that would allow me to travel would be great, if anyone has a good suggestion for a software developer.
You could be me ... in 20 years (well, sooner probably). 90% of my travel is related to software development, working with multiple remote teams worldwide. They don't let me write code any more, though.

I've been trying to think of how I'd describe what I do. I work at a large mutual fund company. Officially I'm in Sales Management (our sales gang starts in Halifax then goes out to Vancouver with offices in the usual places in between) but I'm most accurately classified as a business intelligence specialist / change agent / general sh*t-disturber at work.

Travel is almost 100% personal. I have a boss who's cool enough to pretend he doesn't notice that my vacation allotment is x but my vacation taken is x+y. ^
