Probably best to find someone to refer you.
Sadly I don't own it so I cannot refer you either

Surprisingly, GCR offers no cash rebates on Aeroplan Platinum
http://www.greatcanadianrebates.ca/display/Finance/
only $25 (Aeroplan, 5K welcome bonus) or $40 (Aeroplan Plus, 20K welcome bonus)

Your friend could earn our highest AeroplanPlus Platinum Card miles offer of up to 51,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles8. Your friend could earn 25,000 miles upon first use of an approved Card. And, earn an additional 26,000 miles when they make $1,000 in purchases in the first three months of Cardmembership8. Offer subject to change at any time.

Edit: PM me if you want a referral link for the Aerplan Plat card.

Generally, the best Canadian offers are available through referrals, as compared to the US, where those are usually targeted

Two questions?

Would getting the card take me to Diamond for 15,000 extra points in January ?

Not a big one, but would the $500.00 charge for the card not be half the spend ?

Still the best deal I got was from Areomove, They had Double points a few years back and I got 200,000 points for getting there agent to put an offer in on a house I had picked out allready.

Wow, I thought Aeromove was just for moving. You can get miles for buying a house? Cool.

I don't think Amex welcome points will count for diamond status, unfortunately - none of mine did.

No, credit card sign up points do not count toward Distinction status.

Would be way too easy otherwise

25,000 points from the contest in March did though, and that was pretty easy.

Selling a house (you may want to pick your own realtor) but if you have one that you picked out, what's the differance who puts in the offer. You get in touch and they recomend a realtor.

As for your second question, no, the annual fee does not count towards your minimum spend.
