That's possible. The thing also is, I prefer public transport for short layovers (!) because I can predict exactly how long it takes - and car as a second option if I can get solid evidence it goes faster. but with IST, the former is barely an option, and the latter is a bit of a hit and miss because of traffic ... you're right that weekend would be quick, but I've been there on a weekday and it took like an hour and a half to get in.

For my J mini-RTW, first stopover is LHR from YYZ. YYZ-IAD is J, but I could not secure IAD-LHR in J. Both flights are with UA. Which baggage limitation would I fall under?

Help with routing??

Hi all,

Am total newbie and been ploughing through some of the numerous, numerous posts regarding arranging mini-RTW trips.

I am trying to arrange a flight sometime in Feb 2015 (yes, I know, way in the future and who knows what things will be like then...) and just scouting out my options.

I need to go from:

YYT - SIN
SIN - JNB
JNB - YYT

using whatever route is available.

Right now, I have:

YYT - YYZ (AC)
YYZ - LHR (LH)
LHR - SIN (SQ)
destination
SIN - JNB (SQ)
stop
JNB - LHR (SA)
LHR - YYT (AC)

It would be nice to include an additional stopover in Paris. But how do I do this?

Right now, also, the taxes are $1656.42 for 2 tickets... is there a better way to route this trip? I read here to avoid AC metal but the only LHR-YYT showing up on the website is a direct flight via AC which is exceedingly rare for LHR-YYT!

Any help for a clueless newbie would be much appreciated.

Going to LHR for a summer school program, so I thought I'd take the very long way to get there:

YUL-ZRH LX J
ZRH-CDG LX J
CDG-TPE BR J
TPE-ICN BR J
ICN-LHR OZ J (stop)
LHR-ZRH LX J
ZRH-YUL LX J

450$ tax... and yes, all I'm seeing is LHR :P I'm crazzy

Newbie here too, this is my first redemption for YYZ-SIN traveling January 2014.

YYZ-IAD (UA)
IAD-LHR (UA) stop
LHR-ZRH (LX) stop
ZRH-PEK (LX)
PEK-ICN (CA)
ICN-SIN (SQ)
SIN-MNL (SQ)
MNL-ICN (OZ) (13-hr layover for a daytrip)
ICN-SFO-ORD-YYZ (UA)

Not the best route. Long-winded and a lot of UA, but downs the taxes/fees to $350 in business class.

To avoid AC, you'll usually need to route through US via UA or US. So try looking separately for IAD/EWR/ORD/PHL between YYZ and LHR.

Gotta be in LHR for that date, and can't really leave any earlier... just a chance to try out new airlines, drink, eat, and be merry

There is a Maximum Permitted Mileage or MPM value for virtually every pair of cities that you can fly between, directly or indirectly.

Air Canada/Aeroplan uses MPM5 values, or the MPM value plus a 5% "allowance", to determine the maximum distance that a reward ticket can use to get between these two cities.

Hope this helps,
Mark

Hello Mark, I am a newbie and hoping you or someone like yourself will help on this please and thank you - wondering if I am able to do the mini RTW with Air Canada Aeroplan using the 80K to Australia with a stop over

YYZ-SYD
SYD-BEY
BEY-YYZ

is that possible thank you in advance

Unfortunately I don't believe so.

I can't find a MPM for SYD-YYZ over the Atlantic; if there truly isn't one, then you MUST either fly an exact published routing through Europe or you MUST go via the Pacific ocean.

Cheers

There is one - it's 20,000.

YYZ-BEY-SYD is perfectly doable, just a matter of what connections are available with *A carriers.

YYZ-CAI-BEY-IST-ICN-SYD is one example of a valid itinerary well under MPM.

On EF, you must actually force AT:

Code:
YTOSYD-YY 04NOV13

 TICKETED POINT SURCHARGES APPLY.
    GI M 5M 10M 15M 20M 25M

MPM AT 20000 21000 22000 23000 24000 25000
That's a wild MPM, heh.
