MGallery is a non standardised hotel offering, bit of a mix of 2 and 3 in your question. Better than Mercure but overall not Sofitel standard in terms of quality and/or range of services offered. Much like the Mercure brand MGallery is inconsistent.
Some of the smaller MGallery properties are very good but their size means they can't offer the full range of services to be expected in a Sofitel Hotel and therefore marketed as MGallery. What they do offer within their size limitations can on a par with Sofitel and they're worth a stay if your looking for a smaller property without all the trappings of Sofitel.

Good News.
I like the upgrading of M Gallery to a Sofitel sub brand. It could motivate me to spend more nights with Accor. The group needs a clearer and better definition of luxury and a wider choice. Anyway Sofitel is not always luxury enough (weak in Paris e.g.), they should have a brand on top like Barriere Hotels, that would fit perfectly.
Unclear remains for me how an M Gallery Hotel could fit into Mercure. What is Mercure? There are so many different qualities of Mercure.
What I urgently would wish also for Accor is a business brand with Club Lounge/Executive Lounge (Pullman?), like Hilton or Marriott, and comp. breakfast for Le Club Platinum.
And a website that works. Tried (without success) to book my 3 promotion nights on 20 Sep and could not log in the whole day. Wanted to change my password as I thought it could be a reason but got no mail till today, That was really disappointing, but I still believe Accor could be a first choice for me one day.

MGallery are a mixed bag of properties. Some are great, some are ok, but they're all smaller, boutique-ish, different and individually designed properties, which is why I like the brand. I suppose MGallery as a name sounds very generic, having a Sofitel brand makes it sound more upmarket.

It's "eM Gallery", how hard is it to read it that way? I find it less pretentious than any of the "Collections", especially "Qurvous", which really doesn't work for travellers whose native language is Polish, Hungarian or similar.

I thought LaResidence in Hue was a great hotel, and, with the exception of the Metropole, far better than any of the Sofitels at which I've stayed. But the other couple of MGallery hotels I've tried were of lesser quality.

MGallery properties in Asia tends to be really good with a historical/heritage angle that I really like (3 Nagas Luang Prabang, Hanoi, Hue, VIE Bangkok, etc.). I also like the one in Prague where Franz Kafka used to work. Going to try Hoi An and Saigon soon.
As a Platinum I usually get nice upgrades (suite about half the time).
If you stay at one, keep the catalog book they provide in each room of the (as of 2016) 80+ MGallery aiming at 100 soon. Gives great motivation to travel more!

Hotel Mondial am Dom
The MGallery by Sofitel brans participate in Le Club? I have never got any upgrade at this particular hotels and rooms were always terrible. I would say the room quality is Novotel+ and service ibis.
I stayed at other MGallery hotels. Again I was not sure if I received room upgrades but rooms were decent. Only this hotel constantly gives me rubbish rooms (maybe this is why I can get rooms here even though other hotels are fully booked for trade shows), so I am wondering how Le Club works within this hotel brand.
This hotel even has no coffee machine like Nespresso, cheap Jacobs instant coffee, how could they participate in the "by Sofitel" brand? It should be "Whatever by Novotel".

The MGallery I tend to stay at always gives a room upgrade plus no issues with the complimentary drinks from the fridge
If not sure whether receiving an upgrade, perhaps just ask at check in, what room category it is that you have been given

I don't normally ask if my room is upgraded but this particular hotel always says "we can not upgrade" on checkin without asking. Even views are none, always facing the inner side (overlooking rooms on another wing). I always made bookings with this hotel about one year ago, I think the reservation manager is useless.

I got Platinum through Amex, so I am not very familiar with the scheme. But I stayed a lot for this year and am about to renew Plat on my own.

Thanks for the advice. I just emailed the GM. I am currently in the hotel, I am quite shocked with the room given even though the booking was made several months ago. Apart from the one drink voucher (also to Silver & Gold), nothing was offered.
