Why almost no brands in Taiwan?

I have noticed that in Taiwan the only hotel in the accor program is the Taoyuan airport Novotel. I was wondering why such small representation in a market which is a top 20 world economy.

Seems odd considering they are well represented in the rest of Asia.

this can be continued - Taiwan has no BW, Hilton, Marriott, Radisson...the only big chain reps are Le Meridien and W, a Sheraton, a couple of Holiday Inns plus the orphan of Accor

Because Accor's guys in East Asia are slacking off. They've lost a few Pullmans in China and Korea recently, and have been totally smashed by IHG in Japan (IHG struck a deal with ANA and are currently the only Western brand with a really good coverage of Japan). I wonder if any efforts were made to try to partner with JR East or JR West hotels. There are so many local chains in Japan and I am sure they are looking for a differentiating factor.

I was also very surprised when I found there is no Hiltons in Taiwan. I also look forward to seeing more Accor hotels in Taiwan.

It might due to some political reasons for a while, but I'm seeing more brands going to Taiwan, like W Taipei and I think there will be more brands going
