Let my UC access lapse a couple of years ago as the service plummet started, but as a 1MM *G I recently visited the IAD (D7) and ORD UC's on international travel - Wow, hard to imagine that the standards could have dropped even further. Getting a 10oz beer for $3 was generous - my $3 Sam at IAD was closer to 6oz. Why would anyone actually pay for UC membership??

Of course, seeing the miserable UC's was only made worse by visiting real clubs at LHR, JNB, FRA ...

UC membership is $500 or less if you have elite status; $750 if you want to include spouse. A lot of people get it for $400 thru the Chase Club Visa.

a] you still get free beer
b] cheap snacks is better than nothing. i actually like cheddar sticks and milano cookies
c] sitting in a lounge chair is better than sitting in cheap airport chairs shoulder to shoulder with a stranger at a crowded gate
d] i like having a desk so i can work on my laptop
e] free wifi
f] better luck with rebooking during IRROPs in the club than standing in line at the gate
g] lounge access overseas.

d] See c
e] When it works, and many airports (ORD, SFO) has free wifi for short usage

One thing from my standpoint that has helped sway me is the vast improvement in terminal facilities. Many of the larger airports now have new places with good wine selection, craft beers, and decent food.

Using my (former) United Club membership funds to pay for that has been great. And when I really need it, I've purchased a day pass for a lounge. Though I've never bought a United Club day pass...only other airlines.

I should point out that I'm only about 20 minutes from ORD/LAX, so at my home airport I seldom spend any time waiting in the terminal...it's only at "away" airports.

The $3 club card discount applies to the entire drink, not to the individual shots.

So a double "Tito's Martini" without the club card is $10

With club card $3 discount it's $7.
Got a "Dirty martini with Tito's" at the B6 club at ORD today. $13 because it was a martini, and then $3 off made it $10. At PHL, the same thing cost me $4.

Consistency would be nice. (Preferably at the $4 level )

a) you call that beer?
b) then buy them in the store. It's 5 bux and you can bring unlimited with you.
c) last few times I've been in a UC (ORD and IAH, and ATL) I could not find an empty seat to sit down in, and after getting a diet coke at the bar, I left the club to find a seat elsewhere.
d) Could not find an empty desk either.
e) Free wifi is nice, but with my phone and tethering it, I don't need it.
f) Best luck with re-booking is calling 1k line. If there is a line at the gate, there is a line in the UC as well for re booking.
g) If you are gold or higher, you get access to all the star alliance lounges when traveling internationally. You know, the nice lounges with good food, plenty of space, and quietness, and showers.

I'm quite happy with Bud or Miller Light. But i understand how some people are too good to drink the beer of the common masses.

For those complaining about not finding seats, then please feel free to not utilize the club and leave empty seats for the rest of us who want to use it. I've never had a problem in a UC.

I have and I will!

And no need to be snarky just because I never liked Bud lite or Miller lite beers. I prefer Belgian beers. In my opinion there is a reason bud and coors etc are the cheapest of the cheap. Imagine how many Bud lites you can get for the $500 you spend on the United Club each year!

I have more fundamental issues. I've been to SFO UC few times. There was no beers or wines. I saw nothing but light breakfast stuff.

If by "drink the beer of the common masses" you mean drink the tasteless swill of the ignorant lemmings, then I agree....

I'm not sure I understand the "$13 because it was a martini." I believe Vermouth is a free mixer and Tito's is only $7 after the new new price changes (so the $4 in PHL is correct). They must've been thinking you needed to have more alcohol or something...

But, yeah, stuff like this really shouldn't happen.

EDIT:

I also just updated the wiki to reflect the updated prices Aaron/UA Insider mentioned a while back and that I saw in the PHX UC Club on Christmas.

Here's the pics I took of the menu:

Yeah, I believe the tasting sessions are generally around like 12-4/5. Pretty much the time when you're technically still working.
