Requiring permission from both Saudi and Yemeni authorities is interesting.

I wonder which airport near Sana'a they're using; the info posted claims Sana'a, but that seems risky at best, my last info was similar to iron's (bombed/mostly unusuable; maybe one runway is still ok??) - wikipedia claims that Bisha in KSA was being used instead (but wikipedia has plenty of inaccuracies) - if true, that would certainly explain the Saudi authority requirement.

That said...getting accurate info re: Yemen, like Libya, is difficult at best.

I'm pretty sure they're still flying in and out of Sana'a but I'll confirm the next time I chat with my staff (I work for a Sana'a based company).

The airstrip was damaged numerous times but it can't be that difficult to patch up!

Pointless collecting seems dumb, I go to places I want to visit and actually visit them. What does anyone get out of spending 4 hours in a place just to tick it off?
each to their own just because you dont see the point is....pointless, if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing.

that must be interesting!
I loved my time Yemen, and Sana'a in particular. Heartbreaking what's been going on.
And BTW for those wondering why some of us travel to all these places- this is a big part of why; I never expected Yemen and Yemenis to be so amazing, but of all the places in the middle east - and the world - this became one of my favorites.

^ I regret not being able to see more of Sana'a. I lived there for around 8 years but had tough security restrictions including living in compounds and only moving under armed escort. Yemeni people are amazing though and very resilient given the current situation.

To make matters worse I was told Sana'a was hit by 2 earthquakes this week, including a 4.7. They're the first earthquakes since 1986 from what I'm told and it is likely the old city sustained damage.

I know! I'm behind on several trip reports. Going through my pictures today to try to find one in every country. I know I'm missing a few...

Glad you could join in on the grand tour as well!

I was lucky enough to stay a couple nights in the old town - at the Dawood - amazing rooftop views, and I also went around the villages, Imam's Palace, etc; the checkpoint guys were both startled to see an American roaming freely (as you note, lotta restrictions there if one is working; I was a tourist and free to do whatever took my fancy) - and highly entertained to see one chewing qat, to boot.

Ugh on the quakes

From a Dane who has just finished the 196. How he visited Libya. The Libyan Govt even provided a free return flight on Afriqiyah Airways!:

Easy peasey! That's just a hop and a skip over a bit of water. How did you choose the country to leave til last?

I wanted to choose somewhere for last that was easy to get to for friends and family, and that people would be interested in traveling too. I'm pretty sure had I picked Tuvalu or Congo nobody would have wanted to join me. This way, I have 50 close family and friends coming

Will have to read that... I'd like my Libya trip to be a bit more in depth...

Today's my 45th birthday and I met my goal of visiting every country by then
