If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If a fix is necessary, let the post count number be the title, and so get rid of regular member titles. As it is, I don't see title changes improving things for me and so I would suggest leaving this as is.

Another don't change vote from me. We get enough folks post padding their way to 10k, we don't need further encouragement.

Perhaps it's the fact that 10K is really, really hard to get to. I've been here for over 8 years and consider myself a regular participant and still haven't hit 10K posts. And that's with posts counting everywhere now.
My original idea was to put in a 5000 post title -- something like Enthusiast to match Evangelist. This idea of revamping the whole system fell from that original idea. I'd be thrilled to simply add a 5K title.
But I do think Evangelist is a dumb, dumb term and we'd be better served with a different word in place there alongside a new one for 5K.

On the other hand, intermediary titles before 10K posts would probably mean less post padding, not more- "post padders" get recognition before 10K and then give up, leaving the rest of us to discuss actual content...

+1 to leaving it alone.
Justification for leaving it alone: avoid encouraging post padding; as others have said, the content of a a post is worth more than the number of posts. It clutters the lefthand side less and the titles that are there today, have more meaning as they are few. The post count is also there, so it's not hard to figure out how many posts a member has.
If there's an overwhelming desire to tinker, I'd prefer to see a recognition title for outstanding contribution to Flyertalk and one non-board activities such as a puddingguy or lovetravellingoz type of achievement), nominations from the floor, perhaps only one award per year in those two categories to keep it special, with no need to make an award in any given year.
But that may be for another TB thread.
