Seclusion Day Information: March 9, 2016

Nyepi, known as the “Day of Silence,” marks the celebration of the Balinese New Year in the Hindu Lunar calendar. A spectacular procedure of ceremonies, parades of great bamboo monsters, and fireworks occur on the Eve of Nyepi, followed by a day of total silence and seclusion. The community strongly believes that if the island is silent and dark, the bad spirits will leave and the new year will start in peace. During Nyepi, from 6am until 6am the next day, the island stops. Nobody is allowed in the streets, use of electricity is restricted, and the international airport is closed.

In 2016, Nyepi will fall on Wednesday, March 9. Please note that check-in and checkout will not be possible on Nyepi Day, and Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) will be closed. Some of the resort facilities will operate as usual; however, there will be no transportation services to and from the resort, and televisions will not be available. Lights will be dimmed inside and there will be no outdoor lighting. Our pools and garden areas will still be accessible except for the beach. Only indoor seating will be available at Boneka Restaurant. Gourmand Deli will close at 8pm. King Cole Bar will remain closed.

We kindly invite you to respect this sacred day and observe these restrictions. Normal activity in Bali will resume at 6am on Thursday, March 10.

Just book the pool suite and then send them an email telling them you're interested in upgrading with points prior to arrival. If they decline, you can just cancel the reservation and book the suite you're actually after.

I'm planning a trip here in October/November.

I'd like to see a little more of Bali, if possible. So I'm considering a one-day (long day) trip to Ubud. I'd probably ask the St. Regis to arrange it.

Anyone have thoughts on this? Too much driving involved? Not enough time in Ubud?

I have a question about the resort. Is the salt water lagoon accessible for all hotel guests, or do you have to stay in one of the villas on the lagoon?

It is accessible to all. You have several entry points to the pool, near kayuputi, closer to reception and somewhere in between.

The lagoon is by far the best part of this hotel. An amazing pool at an amazing property.

I'm wondering if anyone can comment on this... I will have a 14 month old baby next time we visit Bali. I'm thinking about staying at this property. I believe that all of the villa's have private pools, so maybe that's not such a good idea with the baby who will probably be walking then.. It's probably a better idea to stay in a suite without a pool. If we do that, would there still be safety issue for the baby? From photos it seems there is a lot of steps everywhere and a lot of areas that are directly open to the water. Does anyone have experience staying here with a baby/small toddler, and would you recommend it? I'm just wondering if it would be better to go somewhere else... Any recommendations would be appreciated.. Thanks.

I'll probably be flamed for endangering my kid, but we have a 17-month old, and we've taken him on 3 trips, where we had villas with private pools-- most recently when he was 13+ months and walking everywhere, with another coming up later this month. We haven't worried about it. If we're out at the pool, between my wife, nanny, and me, somebody is always watching him.

I've only stayed at the St Regis Bali once, and it was well pre-kid (had a trip planned there last August, but audibled to the FS, where we had a pool and more privacy for our nanny). So I'm not as familiar as some with the private pools at the St Regis; however, if the cost isn't an issue, I think a private pool is fantastic and a huge asset for families with young ones.

Additionally, our kid naps better and longer indoors, especially when it's really hot, so it's nice to be able to hang at your private pool while your kid is sleeping inside.

My recollection is that the villa pools are not at 'foot level'. You need to climb up to get into them. There is a wall all around it - about 2 foot high (I think). In our (Strand) villa, there was a gazebo adjacent to the pool and it's not inconceivable that a child could jump from one to the other (although not a baby).

Here's a pic I found on the web (not mine) which shows the wall quite well:

Best of luck!

For those interested, it looks like SPG members get 15% off at various restaurants at the St Regis Bali:

http://www.spgcravings.com/en/restau.../st-regis-bali

Although Kayaputi is NOT listed, it appears that you can get 15% off Sunday brunch:

http://www.stregisbali.com/assets/u/...nch_eflyer.pdf

Of course, that 15% just bring the cost down to sub-$100 *without* the alcohol package. Still an insane price, especially if you have breakfast included.

So.....Does anyone know whether you can get a discount on Kayaputi if you already have a room rate that includes breakfast? Skip breakfast and eat at Kayaputi?
