I'm trying to compile a list of Starwood properties that DO NOT HAVE LOUNGE but still offer free breakfast for Platinum preferred guests or for any other reason when it is not included in the rate. This is connected to a recent thread about SPG Dolphin dropping this benefit; but would like to keep it updated for further reference.

Please post breakfast type (continental, buffet), number of coupons/persons that receive the benefit and; if available, your assesment of the breakfast compared to similar others (cont or buffet) and the reason you received it.

Also... Does this perk ever impacted in your decision while choosing that specific property?

Sheraton Gateway Toronto - when lounge closed, a coupon for 2 people for breakfast. In the restaurant, there was a "Club Level Menu" which had 7-8 items on it including omelettes, pancakes, smoked salmon on bagel, etc.

Well, my answer is going to surprise you somewhat. I found that free breakfast benefits at SPG hotes/resorts without club lounges is highly dependent on how you apporach the hotel management vs. your elite status. Your title explicitly states "for Platinums" but I have had success getting free breakfast at several Cat. 5 and 6 SPG hotels and resorts by approaching the hotel, not on the basis of status, but a combination of charm and appealing to their sense of customer service.

So I think by limiting your question to Platinum guests only - the design of your question is going to unnecessarily limit the responses you are going to get and it's probably going to be a lot of nays since SPG Platinum does not come with free breakfast when the hotel has no club lounges. Rather, I think you should consider amending your question to include a list of hotels where free breakfast was offered when the rate did not include breakfast and ask for the reason why it was given so that you can see if others can replicate the success.

I agree with this statement. For example, I've stayed several times at the Westin Tampa but have never received free breakfast. I never asked but was never offered breakfast. Free Breakfast is not a obligatory Platinum benefit and varies from hotel to hotel but then again I can personally confirm a number of hotels on the list which have provided me free breakfast.

Please add the following hotels where I received breakfast coupons and believe it was given due to my Platinum status:

The Sheraton Newark Airport gives coupons (I've asked for as many as 2 and gotten them, even with only one person in the room). I've been offered them directly when the Club was closed (weekends) and asked for them even when the club would be open and been given them without question.

Never made a difference to me in booking, but it doesn't hurt.

"Club Level" rooms in this all-suites hotel include "Buffet Brkfst For 1, One Appetizer Included In Rate." This text in the rate description doesn't change if your reservation includes more than 1 guest. This hotel does not have a Club Lounge. I never found a notable difference between the Club Level (high floor) rooms and the others. As a Platinum guest, I always got breakfast coupons at check-in even if I wasn't on a Club Level. The appetizer coupon is a relatively new inclusion.

I don't know what the policy is for Golds. And it's been a while since I was there, so it's possible that the rules have changed. (But I doubt that they have.)

No free breakfast at the Sheraton Atlanta Perimeter North when their Club Lounge is closed on weekends. The lounge has had bottled water, Pepsi, and Mountain Dew in the refrigerator during the two weekends that I've been there during the past few months. (Very odd that these are the only two types of canned drinks.) Breakfast in the restaurant is decent, though, and the prices are reasonable. Buffet was $11.95, but we ordered a la carte.

Sheraton Moana Surfrider no longer has a lounge service and/or breakfast. I called them yesterday and asked just to confirm what has been posted in the Moana Master Thread. Bummer, going in two weeks!
