Obviously location is very different but working on the assumption you are happy with either then if you can get a room/suite with lounge access at the MO I would pick that every time. Otherwise if you have Plat SPG status then maybe roll the dice at the St.R

Having stayed at both the MO is the better but the lounge was the big thing for me, the breakfast served there was excellent as was the evening drinks not to mention just having the quiet space to relax and enjoy. I didn't use the pool area at St.R so can't comment but the MO was pretty nice and excellent service.

thanks - should have mentioned will be with our 6mth old, so no club access (or we have to get a babysitter just to use the club).

will then be moving to the shangri-la valley wing for a few nights which looks even better than both

The St. Regis Singapore

We had a very average stay last time and we decided to try to the StR SIN again and were very, very disappointed.

Check In

We had been upgraded to the Caroline Astor Suite according to the app just before our car arrived and went to check in where there was a large line. There were only two desks open and there was no apology for the wait.

We sat down and the check in agent asked no less than three times "Are you sure you only want a King bed" because we are a same sex couple. I found this offensive and inappropriate for a hotel of this calibre.

It took 25 mins to check us in and it appears she downgraded us to the original room type. When I showed her the screenshot from the app from less than 30 mins prior she said "This is a screenshot it means nothing."

I told her that we were tired after a long flight and am not going to push for an upgrade despite their being availability in the app. I told her we plan to never stay at the StR again in Singapore.

She disappeared out the back with the duty manager for another ten minutes and came back with no alternative room type.

Room

We received the room keys and the duty manager attempted to enter into a dialogue and walk us to the room. I politiely said "Thank you, we're very tired and don't require an escort."

The room was an Executive Deluxe and was fine.

Service

The bellmen arrived with our bags and as they were leaving the Butler turned up. He tried to apologise for the lack of upgrade and insisted on giving us a "room tour." Again, I politely said we're very tired after a long flight and would like to go to sleep and he kept offering us tea or coffee or asking if we wanted turndown. In the end I asked him to leave because he didn't understand we just wanted to shower and go to sleep.

Dining

We ordered a morning Flat White and Mocha and the Butler delivered them within 20 mins.

We had breakfast the next morning which has always been of a high quality. I settled our account after breakfast and informed them we still had a $100USD Virtuoso credit we would use for lunch and wouldn't be checking out until 2:30 (which they knew because we booked the Bentley).

We chose to order room service for lunch and the Butler delivered it with a bill and said "You have to pay via credit card or cash because you have finalised your bill." I wasn't going to bother explaining the Virtuoso credit to him so I called the duty manager who was unavailable. So instead I explained it to the operator. This just added insult to injury for what was already a pretty poor stay.

Although we had planned to skip front desk on leaving I physically checked out because I didn't have faith they would apply the F&B credit.

Transfer

We always book the Bentley one way when we stay here and it was the best aspect of the stay. Sadley, Henry has passed away, however the driver was delightful and looked after us. The car is truly luxurious and a great way to arrive or depart. Oddly it's cheaper than the S Class option, perhaps because they are outsourced?

Curiously, this time we weren't passed over the any StR airport reps, however we can manage ourselves.

Overall

Overall, we will never stay here again. The hard product is great but the service is terrible. I remember on our last stay the Concierge gave incorrect information and the staff here don't try to resolve issues with guests, they just give excuses.

It was only a night, but next time we'll stay at the Ritz Carlton.

Stay there couple of times and I believe their service degrade significantly when the hotel are full.

And about the room .... I believe St Regis suite is supposedly the highest category for SPG upgrade

I'm interested with the Bentley transfers ... but so far haven't try them.

Technically, yes, but they upgraded me to a Caroline Astor suite last time.

Sounds like mOhamed feels the denied upgrade may have been due to same sex couple, which would be really offensive.

Hmm. These two statements don't exactly jive.

Same sex couple is supposedly still illegal in Singapore although its not enforced.
So I would say its not common there

Me too, but it's mostly just a matter of being on a slightly higher floor as the suites are very similar.....just like the room types at this property mostly depend on the floor.

My previous review is here https://www.flyertalk.com/hotel-revi...d-and-bad-1132 and https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/22411691-post833.html

On our last trip here we stayed at the GH which although not as luxurious in furnishings had solid service.

N.B. it was other FTers who pointed out the issues one may face as a same sex couple - it hasn't occurred to me until then. Regardless, we still receive great treatment from hotels in the UAE and other conservative countries and this is a global hotel brand, after all.

Just spent three nights here. Booked St. Regis suite, minor upgrade to Caroline Astor suite. Following email exchange, paid 80% for a guaranteed early morning arrival. Would have been nice if they'd offered it for free, but oh well, this is Singapore after all.

No major issues. I do really like the hard product (except for the panel-controlled lighting). Also like the location, a little away from the crowds of Orchard Road, and proximity of Botanical Garden is really nice for early morning run. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Pool does not get much sun.

As dozens have already noted, service is sometimes less than 5*. For example, bellman insisted on taking my roller on arrival (which I really don't like), then it took them 20+ minutes to get it to my room. But on the whole I felt service was fine.

Was going to splurge for the Bentley for return to the airport, but it wasn't available, so just booked a limo cab instead. $62 SGD for a C class Merc not a bad deal at all.

The bellmen did the same to us. We travel with one carry on and one large suitcase each and always keep the carry ons with us. The first thing they did is grab the carry ons and it took three times of saying "We will take those" for them to understand.

The service was perfect and the lounge was very peaceful and relaxing place to be with decent drinks offering (including champagne for breakfast). I got upgraded to a suite also which was a nice touch! The St RegisI tend to find is an ok hotel but compared to other St. Regis around and service very hit and miss, equally the location of the two hotels is totally different so if you need to be in a certain area this could very much dictate the better option for you!
besides FHR what other offers are out there to review?

I'll second that one.

Beautiful park for a run.
