"Circle Asia & SWP" New Product with Fare Rules
OW press release, 1 Mar 07
http://www.oneworld.com/ow/news/details?objectID=9726
oneworld's new Circle fare makes exploring Asia and South West Pacific even easier and better value
Exploring Asia and the South West Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand, has been made easier and better value than ever with the launch of another new fare from oneworld®, the leading quality airline alliance.
Circle Asia Explorer will be available from 1 April for travel starting and ending in any of 14 countries served by oneworld's member airlines across Asia and the South West Pacific.
Travellers must pass through each of the alliance's three defined regions across these continents:
North East Asia, including China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
South East Asia, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
South West Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand.
A maximum of eight sectors is included in the ticket, with travel available in First, Business or Economy classes on flights offered by any of the seven oneworld member airlines operating in these regions - British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Qantas and, from 1 April, Japan Airlines and two of its affiliates JALways and Japan Asia Airways.
Trips may be a minimum of five days in Economy Class or three days in First or Business Class, and a maximum of a year.
The first international sector must be booked before departure, but all subsequent segments can be left open, for confirmation as the trip progresses.
oneworld already offers two Circle fares - Circle Pacific for travel around the continents bordering the Pacific (North and South America, Asia and Australasia) and Circle Explorer, for travel between Europe, Asia and the South West Pacific via Africa.
These Circle fares are part of an extensive range of alliance fares offered by oneworld. Others include its round-the-world oneworld Explorer fare, its various Visit passes, providing for travel within each continent or Japan and also products for the corporate sector.
Notes

Given that all the loaded fares are identical, it appears that OW decided not to make an arbitrage potential for this fare. The rules are also carefully chosen to eliminate high-yield routes (e.g. HKG-NRT-HKG is prohibited by putting HKG in separate region from China and Japan). And there are both segment and mileage limits that are somewhat restrictive. Perhaps an omen of the future of other OW fare products.

e.g. Japan, Hong Kong, Australia?
Or is Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia a valid routing?

The limit of one international arrival and departure reduces it's usefulness but can still include a bit of travel around asia and Australia.
NZ harder to include thanks to 17,000 mileage limit.

I think the wording meant to be each country visited can only be entered and left once, OR possibly each region can only be entered and left once (so no going back and forth between HGK & NRT for example).
If either is correct, then something like syd-akl-hkg-sin-kix-nrt-syd would be allowed.

I've done a conversion of the fares to AUD:
Code:
Fares (AUD) Economy Business First <=13K <=17K <=13K <=17K <=13K <=17K Australia 1,999 2,299 4,649 5,399 6,049 7,049 Cambodia 2,430 2,796 4,488 5,159 6,319 7,274 China 3,066 3,499 5,673 6,565 8,098 9,351 Hong Kong 3,023 3,449 5,592 6,472 7,983 9,219 Indonesia 2,430 2,796 4,488 5,159 6,319 7,274 Japan 2,626 3,064 5,056 5,898 7,223 8,306 Korea 2,976 3,395 5,506 6,372 7,860 9,077 Malaysia 2,428 2,763 4,512 5,155 6,353 7,261 New Zealand 2,496 2,881 5,286 6,057 6,442 7,507 Philippines 2,430 2,796 4,488 5,159 6,319 7,274 Singapore 2,492 2,836 4,640 5,328 6,531 7,476 Taiwan 2,868 3,273 5,307 6,141 7,576 8,749 Thailand 2,714 3,123 5,011 5,765 7,064 8,123 Vietnam 2,430 2,796 4,488 5,159 6,319 7,274

Are the detail fare rules loaded into CRS yet? Also what is the fare basis code?
It seems like a really good product as the price for a simple Aust - Asia is lower than what is on offer at the moment (Cx/QF/VS D/C Class to HKG is around $5.3K) and you get to goto more countries than other fares

QF status credits on Circle Asia SWP
Has anybody looked at maximising QF Status Credits on this fare ?
Pity about the mileage limits.
I guess this fare is less effective for QF Status Credits than a xONEn.
