News

FYI there is an extensive article in the latest issue of Wallpaper* magazine regarding Doronin which includes a few of his thoughts on Amanresorts, the dispute with Amanat and his view of the brand vs. those of Mr. Zecha.
I am afraid it's game over.

Adrian Zecha was also on the scene. We hear he’s now planning 12 new Aman and Setai locations with chairman Omar Amanat.

Brilliant, brilliant summation of Amanevents, Kage. Only you could have put this together - well done!

Especial thanks for the Wikipedia links as I had never heard of most of the celebs.

I have it on good authority that Napa will see not one, but three Amans in the near future. Whether these will be three distinct Amans, or one continuous 'compound', not sure. Land has already been bought. Already in planning/development phase.

By good authority I mean: it's happening.

page 30-31 http://www.dolphinci.com/wp-content/uploads/ar2012.pdf
page 9 http://www.dolphinci.com/wp-content/...011_170512.pdf
also shows change in main pool rendering - originally incredible large, now more normal

2BR pavilion?

except there may be other pavilions in view depending on elevation?

Playa Grande Club & Reserve ("Playa Grande" - www.playagrande.com)
The construction of the Aman Hotel continues on schedule with opening anticipated in Autumn 2015. The service buildings have been completed whilst the main lodge and pavilions are c. 60% complete. The designs for the beach club / kids' club and golf clubhouse / spa / fitness are nearing completion, with commencement of construction anticipated in the first quarter of 2015.

As previously announced on 12 November 2014, DCA Holdings Six Ltd (the Company's subsidiary, holding the Group's shareholding in Playa Grande) closed a $30.5 million mezzanine debt investment with Melody Business Finance. This funding enables Dolphin to accelerate the completion of all complementary leisure facilities to the Aman Hotel (including the Aman beach club, golf clubhouse, spa, gym, tennis, kids' club, hiking and equestrian trails), and to cover all general project overhead costs and debt service until the project becomes cashflow positive without relying on further pre-sales.
4.5+ months since then, waiting for next financial statement

"2BR pavilion?" might be 2BR villa, with rendering "faking" beach..
because villas are not located where hotel pavilions are, above beach

Perhaps some of my "guesses" aren't guesses but are leading questions/indicators to point others toward the kind of known behavior that should be expected going forward for/from the involved figures in my so-called social network?

The era of Aman being about relatively low-profile luxury vacation experiences is not just at risk; it's going away under current ownership. That doesn't mean Aman isn't still a special experience and won't continue to be, but it does mean things have changed.

part of it depends on whether they require buyouts for certain things, and just what kind of occupancy they are targeting

Aman Playa Grande

Despite of being an Aman lover, I'm so surprised about choosing Dominican Republic for their new opening... It has never been a high end destination even if, I guess, they picked one of the most beautiful part of the island but I'm afraid how they will do to attract luxury travelers in a very "cheap" destination... Personally I'll do not choose this Aman for holidays.
