Lufthansa flight LH1360 Bombardier CRJ7 (D-ACPJ) just landed on closed runway at KTW

According to tweet by @Flightradar24 just now. The runway is closed because it is still under construction!

@Flightradar24 has announced that the flight will have to take off from the same closed runway, as there are no taxiways:

It is showing as cancelled on lh.com (not very surprising, under the circumstances, that it will have to take off without passengers).

Yikes, someone will have some 'splainin to do!

How can something like this happen? Bad weather, poor visibility, or pure and good old fashioned human error? I'd imagine the unfinished runway would not have been illuminated (apart from the giant X), while the operational one would have carried all the signs for landing.

Why don't they take off and land on the right runway right afterwards? The passengers could then board the plane and the flight could go on as planned.

They released the passengers, took off and landed on the right runway, then left for FRA without pax.

Notice a construction vehicle on the runway in these pictures. http://lotnictwo.net.pl/5-poszczegol...ml#post1035039

I'm intrigued by this sentence in AVherald.

"The aircraft has to wait for the taxiways being built or take off from that closed runway that has no taxiways yet."

Exactly, this is only logical except for the "without pax" bit. Why didn't they take passengers on their way back to FRA?

Should'nt LH shorten the mileage credit for this flight by 2 miles or so (walking distance) ?

NONSTOP on the wrong runway with YOU !

With an unfinished runway, you don't want any extra weight.

Sure. But theoretically they could have flown to the correct runway, land there and take the passengers to FRA.
Yet, I assume they did not know how long the recovery would take (special permission needed for take-off from unmarked runway), hence they cancelled the return and flew home a few hours later without pax.

Maybe I was not clear. What I meant was that they could have taken off from the unfinished runway without PAX, do a turnaround and land on the right runway. Then, board all the PAX and take-off again, this time all the way to FRA.

no. went down different..
they took off from the wrong runway, turned around and landed on the right one, refueled and flew home without pax.

I guess that did not all happen within minutes and LH Ops decided to rebook pax on other flights and ferry the plane home.

Also I think she will go through a maintenance check before she is allowed to carry pax again.

Perhaps, LH did not feel comfortable with the same crew carrying PAX until the investigation is complete and/or the aircraft required a full inspection before being put back in service.
