I did a search and didn't see anything specific on this question, so any help would be appreciated.

My husband and I go to Las Vegas a couple of times a year, and we haven't found a place that fits our concept of a nightclub - something classy, not full of 17 year olds, a place you can have a dance and actually sit down with a drink and have a conversation. I don't want to stand in line or hang out with frat boys or compete with professional dancers, just find a regular place with contemporary music, not country, swing, or salsa.

Where does the 30-60 crowd hang out?

From what I've heard about "The Foundation Room" at Mandalay Bay, it seems it might provide exactly what you're looking for. Great view, more mature crowd, classy vibe, still-contemporary music, delicious $14 drinks

It is apparently quasi-"Members Only", though lots of Yelp reports mention getting in after asking their waiter/sommelier to get on the list.

Amen. 60s/70s music, not Tony Bennett. And no disco ropes, door people, tokes-to-get-in, or "bottle service."

When I visited the Foundation Room I was impressed with the decor and the top-floor balcony, but the place was jammed like sardines, forget about getting a drink or even breathing. Supposedly $4K/year will buy you access to all the Foundation Rooms nationwide, and the chance to hobnob with folks like Phil Spector

As someone who travels quite extensively to Vegas, I can recommend a few places that I think you�ll like.

1) The previous recommendation of The Foundation Room @ Mandalay Bay is a good one. An easy way to guarantee admission is to simply have dinner there. Anyone can basically score a reservation there, just call Mandalay Bay and ask them to transfer you to VIP Services or to the Foundation Room itself.

2) Mix is an ultra lounge on the top of THEhotel (the all suites tower next to Mandalay Bay) tends to have an older less rowdy crowd. Though there are tons of passes all over Vegas that can get you free admission to here before midnight, an easy way to cut the line and guarantee admission is to once again, eat here. The food is quite good, though be sure to bring your credit cards as it isn�t cheap.

3) La Scena lounge at the Venetian is a small lounge off the casino floor that has live music every night. Many times there is a great 60�s R&B band that plays here and always gets the crowd motivated.

4) Parasol Up lounge at the Wynn is a very laid back casino lounge as well, though without the live music. It has some of the best drinks though in Vegas.

5) Fontana Bar at Bellagio is a really pretty lounge that has live music and is situated right next to the Bellagio fountains. What�s great about here is that you not only have live music and a dance floor, but you also have a front row seat before midnight to the Bellagio fountain show � all for the price of a drink!

Considering your question, those would be my top choices. However, there are tons of fun places to hang out in Vegas, so ask around, new things open there all the time.

My wife and I (both mid 30-somethings) just had a really nice meal at CatHouse at the Luxor, followed by dancing in their "loungerie". The place is themed like 19th century French brothel, but is rather classily done. The food and service were amazingly good. The lounge was a little disappointing, as the DJ tended more toward current hip-hop than the kind of dance music we enjoy, but it was still classy and nice.

Thank you so much to the OP and responders. I am going to Vegas next week for the first time and was anxious about this issue. I like classic rock/oldies tunes or jazz or blues. I don't want to be hanging out in a velvet rope line with a bunch of hot young blondes to hear hip hop music. That's not my cuppa tea. The Jazz Preservation Hall in Nawlins or Rum Boogie Rum in Memphis are more my style for live music. I'm staying at the Venetian so I appreciate the lounge tip there. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine wants to check out Revolution at the Mirage. What is it like? What about Tao at the Venetian? Are those places I should avoid even though some in the group are wanting to go? (we're not joined at the hip so they can go without me).

I used to agree with you, wholeheartedly. But even jaded me has to admit after my last visit that the place, while still seedy and exploitive overall, definitely has its classy places.

It's almost like people who think "childless couple" and "Disney World" should never go together--that's patently false. Vegas now has some of the finest restaurants IN THE WORLD, and with the amount of money flowing through that place it also makes sense that they'd have incredible hotels, spas, and even nightclubs (the original topic of this thread) that fit any definition of "classy".

How about the Foundation Room at the House of Blues? It is at the top of the Mandalay Bay.

I was incredibly disappointed with the choice of music at the Revolution. The decor is great, but the music choices while I was there consisted of "Back that A** Up", "Lean Back", and 50 cent. Now, that's great for Pure, LAX, or any of the clubs I would go to if I wanted to dance to that genre of music. But if I'm going to a Cirque-designed, Beatles-centric club, I would at least like Beates-ERA music, if not the Fab Four themselves.

Go to check out the decor, play with the touch-sensitive tables, grab a $14 martini while you walk around, and skip the dance floor on your way out.

I do plan to take her to the 40/40 club. My daughter is pretty spoiled, all my fault of course! It's her birthday trip and all she has been asking me is how much money I'll give her to spend. Be careful what you wish for, LOL!

One place you might want to consider thats off strip and located in
Summerlin is the Suncoast. NOW? You mentioned 30-60 years of age?
The main stage area where they have live bands playing there every
weekend always draws agreat local crowd and there are lots of dancing
involved. The bands are aminly local acts that plays dance music pretty
much from the disco days to the current hits. But the music on the
average played are from the 70`s to mid 90`s depending on the band?

It seems whenever i pass thru cause with friends or meeting friends
that work there. That stage/lounge area and the dance floor is packed.
Its not like the clubs on the STRIP if your expecting that kind of scene.
But as you mentioned you want the layed back, sitting down having
cocktails, & having conversations with whomever? This may be a place
for you to visit.

The age variety you mentioned has a tendency to lean more on the
over 40 crowd. But who cares? Everyone needs to go out and relax and
have a good time.

Another place thats a little bit further out is the Red Rock. The Side
Stage also features local acts of the same nature and get the place
going as well. Though it is alot smaller venue than the Suncoast.

There are no cover for both and these local entities described are more
your lounge acts for each respective properties. It may not have the glitz
of the Strip? But if you have a car or transportation to get you there?
You won`t be paying STRIP drink prices either? No harm in checking it
out. good luck....
