Well, it is not so new, really, as I think that it was flew the original Hilton flag there in the 1960's.

It was most recently the Sheraton Curacao, and the reviews of the rooms were not that good -- old and tired. Perhaps that is why it is listed as only an Executive Class hotel, right now.

In any event, there are no blackouts and the point redemption cost still appears to be a bargain.

It notes that the Hitlon Barbados should be opening some time in 2004 and the Hilton Haiti in 2005.

Near a beach? On the beach? Near town? Worth GLON considering the lack of other Hilton Caribbean properties?

I've always been intrigued by the Netherlands Antilles. I know they are mostly sand and totally unlike the other West Indies islands. Still, a visit to Curacao might be worth considering as an option.

The Hilton is next to the Marriott. The Marriott is much nicer. To get additional information go to the Starwood Forum and click on Curacao. The Hilton use to be the Sheraton, so therefore their is lots of info there.

Having said that, buyer beware at the Sheraton. The hotel is VERY VERY old and the rooms are some of the worst I have stayed at in the chain, even worse than most FP. The hotel has a very very small beach, which is nice and clean, but can only comfortably seat about 20-30 people. Also, don't expect much from the onsite "casino" and be aware that you will need to have your legs covered to enter.

Now about 30 miles up the road lay some of the nicest public beaches I have ever been to in my life. Curacao is very arid and you will feel like you are driving through Arizona to get there, but you will be rewarded.

If you can stand a room from the 60's and having to drive 30 miles for a good beach, the Sheraton Curacao is the hotel for you.

In my ITEM's from Hilton, just noticed this new resort in Cura�ao. Since I'm in the process of booking my summer holidays and I don't want to cross the pond to Europe (thanks to the war threat), I'm looking into the Caribeean.

Would anybody know if this is a brand new property or if it is just a renamed property?

If it is brand new, I guess it is too early to get any feedback..if it's not, then how was it before?

I'm not scared, but my wife is! I've been to Scotland few times and loved it. But my wife is more into the beaches than golf courses!! So last year we went to Rhodes and Malta and we both loved it and we would love to go back this year. You'll agree with me that Rhodes is by far closer to Bagdahd then Glasgow Therefore, if I have to look for sun and beaches, the Caribeean makes more sense to me if my wife doesn't want to go to Europe. There is few things in life that a man has to accept and not try to change it..and one of them is his wife's fears!

My wife and I were trying to go to HWV with here ALON certificate, but we couldn't get there, because everything was booked and we were trying to fly with her miles she had with Delta. We would have had to use double the miles in order to go and we don't know if we would want to do that.

Has anyone ever been to Curacao or heard anything about it? The island looks great, but my wife is worried about what the locals are like and if it may be dangerous at all. I don't think it would be, since it is inhabited by Europeans.

Any experiences or any knowledge of the island would be very helpful to us!

I was there two years ago and absolutely loved it. I would recommend it to anybody. I am going to Aruba, which is the A and Curacao the C of the ABC Islands. Go, you will really enjoy it.

What was the atmosphere like? Is there lots of things to do? Is it a romantic place?

We are pretty active, so is there recreational activities as well? Did you stay at the Hilton there? If so, how was it?

I second that motion...wife and I went to the "C" island seven years ago and the "A" island this year. Very different from one another. Curacao is quite safe in my view. I'm not sure where the Hilton is, but probably close to Oranjasted (sp.?) If you like beaches you'd better inquire...there aren't many good ones on the island (because it's basically an arid coral rock). But on the northeast side of the island are some great, small tucked away "playas" including our favorite, Playa Lagun, which was like snorkeling in a large fishbowl. Also, Playa Kip is nice. Somewhere on the web you vcan find a site that has the beaches of Curacao with photos. Rent a car and go. You're almost guaranteed great weather, too. And be sure to bring footwear...everywhere the vegetation is sharp and there's coral!

i did a search last week for the hilton....seems it used to be a sheraton and i did not find ANYTHING positive about it...i was disappointed because it also has a casino..but decided not to waste my time
