Bamberg hotel advice

Looking for some input for a hotel in Bamberg. We are going for a beer tasting trip. We could do the standard Ibis etc. but also wondering if there are any taverns/breweries with hotel rooms? Obviously we won't need anything too fancy but we aren't price sensitive either if it's worth it. Somewhere we can crawl back in anonymously would be good.

I stayed at the Ibis in 2005 and have no complaints.

I've heard the Ibis is good and the rates are definitely reasonable and we'll probably use it if nothing more interesting can be found.

The Ibis is ok, but it's your standard chain hotel and nothing special. You can do much better...

I'm usually putting up our guests at the Altstadthotel Molitor. This is similarly priced/cheaper than the Ibis, has great breakfast, centrally located and quiet. I've yet to hear a complaint and it's the No. 1 choice of people who've come more than once.

An alternative in that price range are Hotel Graupner (less nice setting, breakfast is similar; note that they have two locations - their guest house is about 1km away from the hotel, so you've a short stroll to breakfast, but the setting of the guest house is nicer).

Brauerei Fässla has a hotel with 30+ rooms. Brauerei Spezial across the street has rooms, but only 7 and they tend to fill up quickly.

There is a new (2 years or so) Best Western about a half a block away.

I'll plug my website www.FranconiaBeerGuide.com to get phone numbers.

Those two are also recommended in this article by the New York Times (the Bamberg part starts on page 2). There are also more recommendations available here.
